WITH A NAME LIKE MUSKIHUNTER, I FIGURED YOU WOULD BE ONE OF THE GUYS BUYING THE LIMITED EDITION LURES MUSKY HUNTER MAGAZINE PUTS OUT ONCE A YEAR. TROUBLE WITH THOSE ARE THE MANUFACTURERS ARE DOING THE AUTOGRAPHING OF THE BOXES THE LURES COME IN AND NOT AUTOGRAPHING THE LURES THEMSELVES. I WAS REALLY BIG IN GETTING A LOT OF THE BASSMASTER GUYS' AUTOGRAPHS SOME YEARS AGO. I ALWAYS TRIED TO GET THE LURE ITSELF SIGNED.

I was at a fishing show this past spring and met Pete Mania.I just happened to have a Blue Super Shad Rap in my truck so I went and grabbed it and Pete signed the lure itself ;D About a month ago I (literally) ran into Keith Kavajecz at a local gas station when he was passing threw my town.I got a Minnow Rap outta my tackle box and had him sign it for me. I like yourself would rather have the lure itself signed. That way it stays protected when its in the box. What Bassmaster guys do you have??

I've seen the autographed lures, I think they're pretty cool, I just would have a problem with storage. I too collect angler autographs, but mostly on flat media forms (photographs, fishing equipment catalogs, fishing show programs, trading cards). I have a modest collection of the following: Photos- Mike Iaconelli Skeet Reese Bill Dance (also have a 2nd auto of Bill on a Tennessee hat) Babe Winkelman Forrest L. Wood John Gillespie Aaron McAlexander ("N Gage Nation" casting champ) Catalogs- Dan Gapen Sr. (also have a 2nd auto of Dan on a Chicago Fishing show program) "Bobber" Anne Bob Bellew Trading Cards- Kevin Van Dam Jimmy Houston Larry Nixon "Lefty" Kreh (famous fly fisherman, 2 different) Brent "Brody" Broderick (2 different) Always looking for more, I always bring a "Sharpie" to outdoor shows, watch the sales flyers for store promotional events (John Gillespie was at a Menard's grand opening), and keep an eye on ebay.

WoW IKE,FLW,& KVD and the others you have you got yourself a heck of a collection going on. I have always wanted to goto the Classic and see if I could meet some of these guys. Are the trading cards fishing guys?

Yeah, the trading cards are of the anglers themselves. There are a fair number of fishing cards out there. From 1990 to 1993 a company called 'Big League Bass' produced a yearly set of fishing cards. More recently the 'Topps' company released a set of cards under the 'Allen & Ginter' name that included historical figures and icons in addition to the baseball players, many of them signed, that's where I got the KVD card. The "Lefty" Kreh card was from a similar subset from a company called 'Donruss'. What I find from attending at least one large outdoor sport-fishing show a year is that there are promotional trading cards and photographs produced to be carried by most pros doing the lecture circuit, names like Mike Iaconelli, Jimmy Houston, and Babe Winkelman have all spoke and signed at the Chicago Sport Fishing show over the years. One regret I do have is not getting Pete Maina to sign something for me the day I went on a guided fishing trip with him and my father-in-law. Oh well, maybe I'll run into him again somewhere here in the Midwest.

YEARS AGO, LEN HARTMAN WAS THE GUY THAT GOT ME STARTED INTO COLLECTING AUTOGRAPHED LURES. WE WERE WRITING BACK AND FORTH FOR A WHILE AND HE SENT ME AN AUTOGRAPHED LURE THAT HE HAD CAUGHT A FEW MUSKIES ON. I LOST CONTACT WITH HIM A LITTLE BEFORE HE PUBLICLY CONFESSED TO FUDGING THE WEIGHT OF SOME OF HIS CATCHES AND THEN HE PASSED AWAY.
I'M NOT SURE IF THEY WOULD STILL DO IT OR NOT, BUT YOU GUYS SHOULD TRY WRITING TO SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE FISHERMAN OR WHO YOU'D LIKE TO GET AN AUTOGRAPHED LURE FROM. I USED TO WRITE A LETTER ASKING THAT IF I INCLUDED THE SHIPPING LABEL AND POSTAGE BACK IF THEY WOULD LET ME SEND SOME LURES FOR THEM TO AUTOGRAPH FOR ME. A LOT OF THEM WROTE BACK AND AGREED. SO I WOULD BOX UP SOME LURES AND INSERTED A SHIPPING LABEL AND POSTAGE SO THEY COULD SHIP IT BACK TO ME. I SENT SOME TO RON WEBER, JOHNNY MORRIS, RAY SCOTT, THE CABELA BROTHERS, JIMMY HOUSTON, BABE WINKELMAN, AL LINDNER, HANK PARKER, FISH FISHBURNE, JAY YELAS, DENNY BRAUER, MARK DAVIS, GUIDO HIBDON, JOE BUCHER, HOMER CIRCLE, AND PETE HENNING THE PRESIDENT OF PLANO. THEY ALL AUTOGRAPHED WHAT I SENT AND SHIPPED IT BACK. SOMETIMES IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO GET THEM BACK.
WE HAD A BASSMASTERS SUPERSTARS TOURNAMENT GOING ON NEAR WHERE I LIVE A FEW YEARS AGO AND I MANAGED TO HAVE JIMMY HOUSTON, FISH FISHBURNE, MICKEY BRUCE, BO DOWDEN, O.T. FEARS III, SHAW GRIGSBY JR., JACK HAINS, BOBBY MURRAY, PENNY BERRYMAN, KEVIN VANDAM, DAN GAPEN SR., `BOBBER' ANNE, GEORGE COCHRAN, DAVID FRITTS, DENNY BRAUER, AND ORLANDO WILSON SIGN A LURE FOR ME IN PERSON.
OF COURSE, I'VE GOTTEN A LOT OF AUTOGRAPHED STUFF FROM EBAY, BUT YOU REALLY NEVER KNOW IF IT IS AUTHENTIC OR NOT.

Sorry about the upper case. It is a work thing. Everything i type at work has to be upper case. Tough to get out of the habit after 31 years.

It's okay to SHOUT about that, I'd be excited too if I had all of those cool signatures. I'd forgotten about the old mailing a picture with a return envelope tactic. I used to do that with my sports heroes when I was a kid with limited success, but bass pros tend to be much more obliging and approachable, so maybe I should give it a try again.

I am a draftsman at an engineering firm. When I started back in the late 70's we were drafting in pencil. Then we switched to ink. Now all the drawings we do are on computer. But all the lettering on the drawings has always been upper case since the beginning. So I am just used to typing in upper rather than lower case. That way there isn't the wasted time to hit the shift button I guess.
