I stumbled across this inside my Jul/Aug/Sept issue of North American Fisherman magazine.
Apparently Rapala has teamed up with NAFC as part of a Rapala Club member benefit. I just started getting the magazine last month.
Anyway, on page 10A to 10H is a section totally devoted to Rapala, including some sneak peeks at some new lures! I have a feeling ALL of these are just going to be hot!
X-Rap Slashbait
'Even at the meeting where possible North American prototypes were shown to many company insiders for the first time, Jarmo Rapala said nothing about the brand new lure called the X-Rap Slashbait. It looks like a modern Rapala, sure enough, but it's much more. The "X" stands for Xtreme, as in Xtreme attitude and adrenaline pumping aggressiveness. The lure cuts, darts, and slashes its way through the water, then suspends and comes to a roll at rest to trigger strkes. It also features Rapala's durable glass finish applied to the interior, along with holographics, before the final assembly. It also has Rapala's exclusive Long Cast System, which helps it fly through the air and provides a fish attracting rattle. A slashy, adorned rear treble adds to the visual appeal, but it's what the bait does in the water that causes fish to strike without hesitation. In fact, after testing prototypes, Rapala Pro Staffers Bernie Schultzs and Larry Nixon called to let us know how excited the fish were about it. Both freshwater and saltwater X-Raps have heavy duty split rings to match their aggressive action. The saltwater version takes them further with even stronger split rings, and PermaSteel 3X Hooks. They're available in 12 hot color patterns, including 3 developed exclusively for saltwater gamefish.
DT-04
A new addition to the Dives-To series, the DT-04 dives to 4 feet and features an aggressive side-to side action. The philosophy behind the design, driven by Rapala Pro Staffer David Fritts, is that shallow fish are aggressive and want an action that matches their mood. Subtel shaping of the lip design, psoitioning of the hooks in relation of the lip,and the action help the DT04 avoid hanging up, even when bumped off cover. This bait is a gem in shallow water. The DT04 joins the DT06, DT10, and DT16 in 12 colors.
Glass Fat Rap
Rapala was the first to build a square-lipped crankbait, with the 1977 introduction of the Fat Rap. Sometimes called a deflection lip, this style bait can be a powerful trigger when it hits cover, bounces off and stalls before continuing onward. The new Glass Fat Rap, available in sizes #5 and #7, will be the most feature-packed square-lipped to date. The design features a low-frequency, hard-knocking rattle system, in 8 glass finishes.
Wow!!!!
