I was in Gander Mtn. yesterday, and saw these things on the cover of a fishing magazine. I think that all of you shallow shap rap lovers, including myself, will love them. This site also has the other new lures for this year on it www.tackletour.com/reviewicast08rapala.html

I just wonder on how the diving lip is going to make them wobble. Trolling ssr's with the bent lip is the whole key to the lure. You can pull them through weeds and they do not foul out. It will be interesting to see how they work with the different lip. Thanks for the post it was a very interesting reading the article.

.Are these lures avaliable now or will they be released at a later date. The shallow x-raps look like they will be a killer lure also the new DT's.I can't wait to use these for Smallies on the deep rock piles here on Green Bay

Bass Pro has them now. Don't think they are advertised on their web site yet. 7.99 each. I will be waiting on a sale, but you can say goodbye to the shad rap line.....they will fall the same way the fat raps did. Better stock up now.

Saw some today at Dicks...resisted the urge to get any yet because they're still unpacking from boxes, and they only had size 6's so far.
I'd be looking for size 7 and size 8s....and yeah, they are going to slay them on my lake... ;D

Just picked up the shallow X-rap shad today in Perch.... took it to the bathtub, and was not very impressed. First off, let me start by saying the finish, body shape, suspending qualities, and hardware are all Top Notch. But, the action (or lack thereof) did not impress me. It has no wobble like the shallow Shad Rap, but rather an unpredictable Wiggle. Which means you don't know when it's gonna wiggle and when it's just gonna dive through the water with a little shake here and there. This thing would not put off vibration unless you pulled it 10 miles an hour on 4 pound test. Anybody else notice this?
With that being said, it's probably a killer bait when smallmouth are chasing bait in shallow, clear water. Perhaps the very slight shaking and wiggling is what Rapala was looking for in this bait, definitely not a prespawn, stained water, attention getting bait.

I agree that on the straight retrieve the shallow Xrap shad is pretty much terrible. However, I have caught a few bass on it while using an erratic, stop and go technique. Overall though, it is certainly nothing to get overly excited about IMO. I'd much rather have an SSR tied on over it anyday. Now the regular X-rap on the other hand has produced for me time and time again!!

I agree, Chris Brown couldn't beat the original SSR. Are you talking about the X-Rap slashbait? I love the slashbait, it rivals the L.C. pointer in action and design. If you're talking about the X-Rap shad I'm not very impressed with it either, it puts out good vibe and flash, but it's swimming action is not as natural and realistic. THATS where you start missing the Old Balsa Shad Rap..... unfortunately, you can't have the natural beautiful swimming action of the balsa shad rap and be able to cast it long distances at the same time. It just don't work like that.

Chris Brown, lmao.!!! I was talking about the X-rap slashbait, I agree the X-rap shad, whether shallow or deep just doesn't have much action!!

Haha, I was trying to think of someone who is good at beating things and Chris Brown just popped in my head, lol.
Yeah the slashbait is NASTY, but the shads are just... meh.
