Using primarily XRap-14's for saltwater striper fishing and I've noticed that some people have posted pictures of them cracked in half or with the lips broken off. What surprised me was they're not thru-wired? You can see the xray image of it here: www.lakemichiganangler.com/store/Rapala_Xrap__14_Slashbait.htmAFAIK, only the xrap-magnums are but they don't cast as well...

What do you mean by thru-wired? The Wire running from the lip to the back hooks?
Two winters ago I had a #8 x-rap got stuck in my finger, and I went to the hospital and they took x-rays to make sure it wasn't too close to the bone, and the x-ray looked exactly like that.
I might have to break open one of my broken x-raps to see what you mean.

Yes, exactly that. There should be a wired connection from where you attach your fishing line to all the hooks.
The XRAP-14 seems to have a head section that is not connected to the rest of it. Dumbest design decision I've seen from a lure maker for what is mostly a good lure :-P If a fish smacks it into some rocks, it'll break apart...

Haha, not to many fish here in Ohio can destroy an x-rap, but I'm sure plenty in saltwater will.

Yep...on the east coast, we use them on stripers. The main problem is the rocky coastline. Drag an xrap14 into the rocks a few times and the head rips off because it's not thru-wired :-P The lips rip off too :-P

Sheesh...
