Well, we know where some of the money is regarding the high price of thise lure: packaging! Pic of my Silver one and fishfingers007 Hot Flake Chart... Still good looking lures, and I can't wait to use it...but my arsenal will be limited to one or two. Special thanks to Jax Cat for getting them to me so quickly

Sorry Rapala, but this lure is a bust. Just returned from our Minnesota Walleye opener which is always the highlight of my fishing season. Prior to departure picked up two Max Raps with high expectation that this lure would be perfect for the way we typically fish for Walleys. The package and advertising claims that this lure runs at one - two feet. Well all I can say is don't believe them. Runs a lot deeper than that, in fact runs deeper than the original number 11 floater. Another problem is that the Max Rap is a suspending lure. Well maybe? I was using the smallest of snaps and that made the Max Rap a count down. The action of the lure was only so so in my eyes as well. Sorry but I'd recommend not buying this offering from Rapala.
On the other side though, purchased the new Flat Rap and that is one GREAT lure. Great action and super GREAT castability....

I haven't tried the MaxRap yet and probably won't either because it seems they are not worth the money On the other hand the Flat Rap is turning out to be a killer lure for me this year. The Smallies have been tearing this thing up

On the other side though, purchased the new Flat Rap and that is one GREAT lure. Great action and super GREAT castability.... I just used one for the first time yesterday evening and was very impressed by it. First of all it casts as well as they say it does - even into a head wind. Swimming depth (sea fishing) is perfect for my needs - fishing over very shallow reefs close to the shore (need a decent distance to get to the deeper water). Even with the rod tip held nearly in the water the Max-Rap was only 0.5m max. Fishing in the dark (that when the bigger fish come closer to shore) means that I can't see the lure to know when to lift the rod tip to get the lure to rise above the reefs. With the Max-Rap I had no problems at all. I also intend using it from the beach and ours are all shallow shelving which means long casts and a shallow swimming action are essential. Perhaps the snaps altered it action more than you thought it would?

Im surprised because I have never seen my Max Rap dive more than 1 foot But I agree on the Flat Rap - the less heralded of the two lures is definitely kicking ass this year - casts better than the Long Cast and almost as well as the Max Rap. Great hard flashing action as advertised - the Chrome finish ones are killer!

I might pick some of these maxraps up soon. If no one is buying them because the price is too high, rapala may discontinue them and they would quickly become collectors.
Does anybody know if they have made any special colors for these? Japan specials or anything?

Fishhook i agree with you on that! Those baits are awesome and i plan to pick up a few for later the season. I would expect not alot of guys are using them because of price but those are really nice. Its the most expensive rapala lure that they sell, but all the other ones are same quality.

Another problem is that the Max Rap is a suspending lure. Well maybe? I was using the smallest of snaps and that made the Max Rap a count down. Two questions: Were you using mono or braided line? What was the water temp? Cold water will adversely affect a suspending bait because it is denser and a suspend starts to sink. 58 degrees is a good temp for these. Mono will sink, braid, not so much.

rapala are usually very good when it comes to suspending lures, a few weeks ago i decided to test my 'suspending' lures in a bucket of water, as i always fish with a wire trace, so i never knew if they actually did suspend like they said. I have 2 suspending rapalas, a HJ12 and an XR08. The xrap floats very slowly, i would class it as a suspender, it takes it about 10 seconds to float up less than an inch. The husky jerk sinks at about the same rate as the xrap floats, so both rapalas suspend really quite well. On the other hand, some of my other lures such as my savage gear 19cm (8inch) 4play which cost me like £17 (almost $30) sinks like a brick even without a trace. The pike don't care though, that thing has caught me loads of fish, but its still a bit disappointing when you spend that much money on a lure that claims to be a suspender, although i didn't buy it for that reason, i knew it wouldn't suspend in use because i use a wire trace, which makes a surprising difference.

I have two of those maxraps and they work really well. Mine didn`t even start to sink any faster in really cold water(46 degrees) and with wire trace. It goes to about 3 to 4 feet when trolling but not deeper
