I was wondering what is the difference called for the painted red mouths on some lures. The older ones just have a red spot for a mouth, and the newer ones have red lines on each side. There has to be a name for the older mouths lol.
thanks, Jeff

Just picked up a SSR 9 SFC with the red spot. Now I have both versions. So far I have only noticed the SFC, S, and B having both styles. I am sure the G does too, I just haven't seen one yet.

bodeen You are wright about the Silver, Blue, Sfc, the Gold only has the red lines In the firetiger first had the red under the lip, then came out with red gills and now the new ones has the red line. The Silver Gold has two one with red under the lip and the other with red gills and also the Silver Blue is the same as the Silver Gold. I have all of these in my collection, but not the SSR-9-SG or the SR-8 with the red gills

I knew of the SB and the three different FT, but I wasn't aware that the SG came out in two styles like the SB did. I guess I will have to go digging through my extras and see what I got. You have a pic of the two SG side by side?

Welcome to the board jhi. Please feel free to communicate on any thread. Others will likely ask you some question about Rapala in Germany. Stick around and others will help you too.

I not sure about the other models, (SSR-14, etc) I do recall that the older models like the floaters, countdowns and some others that have the 2 red lines painted on, are what the "Japan Collectors" refer to as 'lipstick' models.
I find it interesting that some of what I see being called 'antique /vintage' rapala's have the 'airbrushed' red on them.
As for the details that I've seen here on the pictures, that means MORE little details to look for on Rapala's I want to add to my collection.
Does it ever end!!!
lipsick mouths, flat lip vs v-lip on Fat Raps SFR's, teal box hang tag vs other box types & oversea's editions. SSR-14's (I've got to get more informed on this series!) Magnums, Older Plastic lip, Metal lip (w 2 different types of line tie), newer plastic lips Pilkki's, different sytle and packaging.
Slight difference's in color patterns (too many to list) Major changes in color patterns, (IE, the perch pattern, goldtone, orange belly, scale pattern added)
Will it ever END!!!
Man, I love collecting Rapala's and the research part just keeps getting better and better!
Ya'll post some great stuff, thoughts, comments and details!!!!!
