Has anyone using the holographic lures,( specifically the shad raps), had any problems with the skin of the lure pealing off. this has happened with quite a few of the holo's that I've been using. they dont seem to have the rugged design that the solid body and glass raps have. They have a chrome body that is covered by the holo effect that doesnt quite adhere to the chrome very well. Dont get me wrong, These lures have been very productive, but when youre paying 5 to 8 dollars a lure, you expect them to last as long as the other great shad raps. I love rapala lures, and have hundreds of them, but I feel Rapala dropped the ball when designing the skin on this lure. Anyone experience the same problem??

This seems to have been a problem. It 'might' be why the 'rapflash' Holographic patterns are not listed on the rapala website. I have a few, but haven't used them.
Other than that, I'm not sure what else to tell ya.
It also might be the reason they went to the 'glass' patterns.

Thanks for your response. It's a shame for these holographic lures. I've used them in Canada with a great deal of success, but after a few hundred tosses the finish peels right off. If they can figure a way to top coat them with a more durable finish, I'd continue to buy them. They DO work. Lets go Rapala, get your R&D dept. to work and make it happen. Thanks

I'm pretty sure the Holographic lures are done. I agree the finish coats sucks and the holograph paper underneath peels after the first fish. It seems they didn't put enough R&D into these up front and now they are going to be discontinued. I've got a small stash of them saved away for a rainy day. They do look good in the water.

Would clear nail polish work? Or would that simply 'yellow' over time? Im also thinking too heavy a coat would also affect the lures performance.
I've never actually used them, although I'll have to see if I can pick some up as well...

Here's a Holographic Question for the group.
When the Holographic lures came out 2000 or so, the ad posted in stores shows a floating Holographic with 3 trebles. Clearly a floating 11,13, or 18cm. As we all know the holographics were only distributed in 3,5,7,9cm. I wondered if anyone(Steve) had tracked this story down to determine if these lures were ever made in the larger size. I've never seen one but would love one for the collection if they exist. Chew on that.

I was just in Gander Mountain recently and they still have some Holo deep diver #7 with a blue back(Not sure of color code). As a Rapala user I could not bring myself to buy any because of the poor way these lures have been designed. But to a collector, I'm guessing since they have been discontinued, they probably wont last too long. I asked the clerk how they were still able to obtain these because of them being discontinued, and he just said because of the large bulk amount they started with. I guess they will keep them in the display area until they are gone. They also had a large assortment of the collectors edition Shad Rap deep divers( With the Gander Mountain Boxes) Have these been hard to get in other areas?

Yep, they have been for me anyway, since the closest Gander Mtns for me are in PA and NY. So I had to get mine through msulli16 on these boards.
