Does anyone have one yet or plan on getting one?
I think I am, not like I really need another reel, but just curious to see if anyone owns one yet...

Well I've checked them out, but I'm not sure who actually makes them. I'm certain theyare slick but it's the the guts of the reels that make or break 'em. I can't get to the bottom of this one. For example Shimano rods are actually manufactured at the Fenwick plant. Lower end Abu Garcia reels are made in conjuction with Mitchell............ I guess the difference to me is knowing what went into the design and manufacturing. I really don't want to own a re-named Johnson or Zebco. I may be splitting hairs, but in todays world of marketing name brands are not always what they appear. i.e. Yamaha outboards owned by Yamaha. Mercury outboards now owned by Brunswick. I guess I like to own quality products that will potentially last a lifetime. If I can reduce the risk involved, then I will. What makes me wonder about these reels is the price. They are at the lower end of of the scale (except the 10 bearing model) but how many bearings are needed? and what are the bearings made of? All this being said, one of these reels would go very nicely with the matching Rapala rod I already own.

I have had 2 of the SX4i in use for a year and a half. I only had one problem-the big nut that holds most of it together under the spool came loose. It was an easy fix though. I have cleaned and maintained them as directed and they still feel smooth and tight. I would buy another one but they are'nt as nice as say a $70 shimano or pflueger but then again they are half the price. Just my 2 cents.

I bought a rapala reel last year, and after about 2 months using it i've had nothing but problems with it. The gears were so bad in it that it took like 3x the normal force to reel it, beleive me i've oiled it and it still sucked. Last "rapala" reel im ever buying. Dont get me wrong, im sure some of the reels work good but the one i had sucked! Its shimanos and abu's for me now.

Those "lower end Mitchell reels" seem to work fine for me. 308 and 300 are workhorses. I own several of these reels for over 10 years and they are still cranking well. Super easy to work on. My trolling reels have to be red ambassadeurs though I own a few shimanos as well. As far as the rapala reels go, I would own one just to have it, not to use it.
