I am certainly hooked on this site. I look forward to scrolling through and reading comments and stories about everyones favorite lure. "The Rapala"!! But, on some of these threads I find myself almost having to refer to the Rapala dictionary to understand what the Heck that person is talking about. You all are so familiar with these lures you refer to them by their coded numbers. I am overwhelmed by the number of lures Rapala produces. its cool viewing the links and pictures provided by some of the members on this site. There are so many color codes and variations of colors and sizes and discontinued lures and limited run lures and custom lures etc, etc. I'm slowly learning the lingo. The only thing is, I think I'm getting bit pretty hard by the Rapala bug and that scares me. I'm seeing a lot of great looking Rapalas on this site that you guys have posted, And I think I need to have them. I may need intervention. I live within 25 miles of 2 Dicks Sporting goods, Cabelas, Gander Mountain and a Bass Pro Shop. I can feel my wallet shrinking already.

Well you know what they say about lures, they catch fishermen, not fish...lol. Well, we are certainly glad to have you aboard and would be more than happy to answer any questions you have...thats pretty much the way I started out too. By the way whereabouts in PA are you? You must be near the Cabelas in Hamburg PA then...

Yeah,
Welcome aboard. You've caught the bug that's been spreading around here for a while. Stick here for a while and you'll know more about Rapala than the Rapala Reps themselves do.

Fishhooked, Yeah, I live about 25 miles west of the Hamburg, Centered between Reading, Harrisburg and Lancaster. Believe me, stepping into that cabelas for the first time was a major rush. Its an incredible store. But after your in it a dozen or so times, it starts to ware off. I happened to be there the day they opened. It was actually the day before the advertised grand opening. What a thrill. I happened to be driving by and noticed cars going in and followed along. I guess I was at the right place at the right time. I got the pre rush tour. The aquarium and animal mounts that they exhibit are awesome. Not to mention the fishing tackle. I went home after a few hours and returned that evening with my wife and money . I left the store with a somewhat lighter wallet. Anyway , have you made the pilgrimage there yet?

Yeah I've actually been there twice so far. The most recent trip was when I went to the Eastern Sports Show in Harrisburg a few weeks ago.
I had to pass Cabelas on my way there so naturally I had to stop in! I actually stopped to load up on those Cabelas exclusive color Shad Raps, lol.
So where exactly is the Bass Pro Shops in the area - isnt in in Harrisburg or something?

Yeah, Bass pros is in the Harrisburg east mall. You were fairly close when you went to the sportsman show. But I know that would make for a long day trying to make it to all three. If you took rt 78 to rt 81, you also passed a Gander mountain right off of rt 22 about a half a mile from rt 81. also down the road from gander mtn. is Dicks sporting goods, which supplies a good assortment of Rapalas. Its a tough choice for me to make somtimes because I could either hit cabelas to the east or travel west and go to gander mtn, Bass Pros, and Dicks. The Bass Pros is pretty impressive too. Its not a seperate building. It was actually built onto the end of the Harrisburg East mall. Two levels. The prices are fairly competitive between all 4 stores so that is not usually the determining factor on which direction I head. Go to Cabelas or Bass Pros if your going for an experience. Go to Gander mountain or dicks if your going to shop. How was the Sportsman show this year? I didnt make it.

Damn if I planned my trip better I couldve hit Bass Pro...damn. It was actually my first time going, I had heard how huge it was so I took a day off and went. My main purpose on going was a 'buying' trip - I was looking for some old stuff for my collection and maybe some stuff to resell. I was disappointed. I mean, how many booths can you have for just fishing guides? Seemed like overkill to me. Not nearly as many tackle booths and no one unloading old stock...

I wish I would have talked to you sooner and saved you the trip. I guess you need to experience the sportsmans show at least once. I've been there over ten times and it really doesnt change that much from year to year. It just gets more expensive to get in and more conjested. 80% of the booths are guide trips to who knows where. It takes a long time to sort out what your really interested in seeing. I like to hunt too, so its not that bad for me because of all the hunting stuff, but even that gets old fast when your fighting for space to move. They do have entertainment and seminars to attend but it shoots a good portion of your time. Yeah , its not the place to pick up collectable lures or even old stock. But it is an experience. But remember one thing, If you've seen it once , it will be the same way everytime you return. Dave

Steve, I would looove to transform my basement into something like that. Right now my 'fishing room' has a lot of old fishing memorabilia in it, like old Heddons, rods, crap like that. After seeing your room I feel like selling all the crap in mine so I can just keep a Rapala room! And I also need to set myself up for an online photo album for my lures as well. I love my site, but its a pain in the ass to update. I'd love to just have a seperate place for all my pics, and just link to it from here.
