Does it really matter what color line you use? I bought clear blue trilene at walmart today, because it was the only color they had, and i never really payed attention to the color of line I put on my reels before, and cant tell a difference in weather or not the line color spooks the fish or not. Does the color make a difference?

I think diameter spooks fish more than color. I am however, hooked on low vis green trilene.

Around here you can be in 15' of water on a calm day and see the bottom pretty good. I think it makes a difference when water clarity is good. I also believe that the diameter makes a huge impact as Bodeen said - not to mention it takes the action of the lure away. If you want line that truely disappears when wet then Berkley Vanish is it. I'll stick with my Fireline as even a Walleye can whack any mono like a razor and it sucks when it happens. I use the smoke color and it gets pretty hard to see when it gets in the water. What kind of line do you want to try as I live about 15 minutes from the Berkley plant and it's cheap.

I'd have to agree that for me I always try to go with a smaller diameter, then again I almost always use thinner line, rarely ever go over 8 or 10lb test. How some of those bass pros get away with using 17+lb mono is beyond me, it'd be like fishing with rope. Just seems to me that with all the line colors coming out these days is just a gimmick by the line manufacturers to come up with something new...I don't know if you'll ever see me using 'red' fishing line...lol...

I use low vis green more for myself I think then for the fish. XL casts smooth and long. I used to catch fish a long time ago before all this line crap took off, so I think it is more of an angler's preference than a lot else. Diameter does make a difference in fish seeing it, lure action, casting distance, sink rate, and trolling depth. Other than that.......

What about 17lb test line on a super shad rap for pike? Does it matter that the line is so heavy?
