For pike fishing in Ontario with super shad raps, should I use 14 or 17 lb test fishing line? P.S. there also might be a chance of hooking a muskie...

Lol, is everyone here tired of asking my questions? Im just ignorant with this type of stuff. I'm thinking 14 would be enough, but if i hook up into a big one do you think I would be able to bring em in?

No, no, no, not at all, lol. Personally I havent had the chance to really fish for either one, I really dont have the tackle for them. Im guessing you would need to use some sort of wire leader I guess, since they're both 'toothy critters' you'd almost have to...unless you go with some sort of braided line, which is a bitch to break - maybe go with a spool of that and see how it goes?

Well i'm taking wire leaders, because braided lines are easy to cut when a lot of tension is aplied to it, but im still debating on 14 or 17 lb test line.

Line test shouldn't really be a factor. 14 or 17 wouldn't be much of a difference. Now, having a good drag, that matters. Pike will make a few "runs" on you when you hook them. A smooth drag is a priority. The heavier test line comes into play if you have to turn these fish when they are not wanting to be turned. As bass anglers like to say, horse the fish in.
Don't relax once you get the fish next to the boat. They like to make one last run right when you want to net them.
