Whats everyones opinion on what the best rapala for muskie is? In June I used super shad raps up at Lac Seul for muskie, but with no luck. What about a 18 floating magnum?

I always use a MFR3 GTR when I fish for muskies....of course, I never fish for muskies As many casts as you must make for muskies, I wouldn't think a super shad rap would be rotator cuff friendly. I would think a slender large bait would do the trick.

MY WIFE DOESN'T FISH FOR MUSKY, BUT SHE HAS CAUGHT A 48"ER AND A 36"ER BOTH ON A #9 SHAD RAP. ONE ON A SHALLOW, ONE ON A DEEP RUNNER. BOTH PERCH COLOR.

OFFICIALLY FROM WHAT I KNOW ABOUT MUSKY FISHING YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO USE A LURE THAT SMALL BECAUSE THE MUSKY COULD SWALLOW IT TOO DEEPLY. BUT LIKE I MENTIONED, SHE REALLY DOESN'T FISH FOR MUSKY, SHE FISHES FOR ANYTHING THAT WILL HIT HER LURE. LAST YEAR WHEN WE WENT TO MINNESOTA ON VACATION, I THINK HER TOTAL WAS 27 NORTHERN, THE BIGGEST ONE WAS TEN POUNDS, AND ONE WALLEYE WHICH WAS FIVE AND A HALF POUNDS. ALL ON THE SAME #9 SHAD RAP IN PERCH COLOR OVER OUR TWO WEEK VACATION LAST SEPTEMBER.

I would say that the perch/blue gill pattern (around here) is a great color to use. I would have to agree that a #9 SR is a small lure for these fish. #18 mag - floating or CD is the minimum I would toss for these. In my experience these fish like to hit the lure from the side-

super shad raps are the key. we troll them at about 3-5 mph. i have a silver blue that has so many teeth holes it now sinks. i am starting to run the new xrap magnums and the jointed xraps. will let you know how they work.

That is why I am a big fan of the SSR (skinny water). I was throwing SSR8 at our cabin last year and found that even with small 7-10 pouind pike a leader was needed. Nothing worse than losing a discontiued lure. Where in MN do you go? Main objective for my group and I are walleye, perch, and smallmouth. Pike are a bonus.

Could you post a picture of that lure. I wasn't aware that they came in SB and would love to see one. It has to be awesome looking. Plus I love seeing battle wounds on my lures

CASS LAKE IS WHERE WE GO. SHE USUALLY DOESN'T RUN ACROSS TOO MANY BASS IN CASS. WE USUALLY CRUISE ALONG THE REED EDGES CASTING TOWARDS THE REEDS. SHE ALWAYS USES A LEADER JUST IN CASE.

What lb test leader did she use? Most leaders sink small baits like the ssr's.

What I started doing (after I decided to stop losing my lures) was to use a 9 inch steel leader of 30 pound test. Casting it to shore and using a steady retrieve or a wounded/darting minnow retrieve. The leader didn't sink the lure as it was almost always moving. The thing I have against them is the way the affect the action and how they can sometimes foul during the cast. My catch rate wasn't deminished.

THE LEADER SHE USES IS SOUTH BEND INVISA-LEADERS, 8 INCH, 27 POUND AND 12 POUND STREN SENSOR LINE WITH A QUANTUM MEDIUM ACTION SPINNING ROD AND REEL. SHE ALWAYS KEEPS THE LURE MOVING TOO BY USING A JIGGING RETRIEVE.

No muskies here in the UK, but i will tell you what i have found is best for big pike: The shad rap series is number 1 for me, glidin' rap is great too, the storm wildeye series works great, go for the larger sizes though. spinners are surprisingly under used, but will catch hundreds of jack pike. Just in general, i would recommend going for the larger sizes of lures, all my best lures are atleast 6 inches long, and the 10inch fox replicant is now accepted as the top lure here in the UK, with lures such as believers following close behind. I prefere dark colours, naturals like silver are top colours, but my all time favourite is black. This might sound silly, but i have done particularly well on lures with orange bellies too, give em a try. The number 1 all time colour though is the rapala silver blue, something about it makes pike tick. Perhaps its because it is shiny, so it is easily visible, and it also looks natural, so you get the best of both worlds.

Caught my first musky this evening and on a Rapala!! I had been using a J-11 with no luck and went to the 5" model of X-rap in orange belly /black back and no luck. I then tied on a silver 5" husky jerk and first cast, caught a 29" The rap had him with all 3 trebles.

Again I'm from the Uk so we don't have Muskies, but for Pike we catch a LOT on magnum F-14's while trolling. Colour isn't too important, but Silver Mackerel does surprisingly well since it's really a saltwater colour.

Well the technical name is bowfin, but we always call them dogfish. They do body rolls in the water and they fight like a fish thats a lot bigger. We usually catch them bass fishing (this one was caught on DTFAT-3 RCW)

I have been using an X-RAP Xtreme action slashbait (SXR-14). I got a hit on that thing. My boyfriend uses a big Rapala perch, not sure what it is called but hes been catching them on that.
