I love trolling CD's in the clown color for walleyes. But this time of year where I fish they have been feeding shallow. Even in 20' water they are shallow. Don't know if this is relevant to saugeyes but holds true for my favorite lake.

Fall turnover and they should be really hitting the shallows. Bigger baits should be the ticket this time of year as well.

Nope - should be perfect but not for 10' water - I have used these lures a few times and I believe they run deeper than advertised but maybe it was because of my skinny line. Get some HJ-12 or 10's. Or a safe bet would be some SSR's or TD's or even some decent sized Originals.

What kind of retrieve should i be using this time of year? Like fast and erratic, slow and steady, ect...?

I tend to troll at a moderate speed. Even though the air temps have changed drastically, it takes a while for the water temp to change a great amount. The fish are stil quite active. In the spring is when I go with a slower troll or retrieve. It will differ a bit from moving and still water.
SSR and wally divers are my main staple. I also use a sonar, JSR, original, and Mepps Aglia. Colors I like to use are S, FT, FP, P, HS, CB, PW, OCW, and SD (RFR4). wally diver in perch or dull FT. Aglia in red and yellow with a dressed treble. Size 5.
Fall there isn't a lot of small baitfish, most have grown up or have been eaten, so larger baits would more accurately represent the forage they are used to seeing. I would much rather use a SSR9 P than a SSR5 P this time of year.

you want big fish, use a big lure. i roll a #18 floating for walleyes and kill them. i have been getting them on hot steel, clown and firetger. i troll them at 2-2.5 mph. if the lake is only 10 feet deep you might want to long line them. give it jerk once in while to this mght trigger a bite and dont be afraid of the weeds. i have ripped my lure through weed beds and as soon as its out ITS ON. mike d
