Man these things will caught anything! First day i used one i caught a 14 inch smallmouth, and a 11 inch crappie. Second time i caught another nice smallmouth and a carpsucker. Third time i caught a carpsucker and about a 12 inch smallie, and then tonight I caught a fish I never even knew we had in our river, a freshwater drum, or sheephead, as we call em here in ohio. It was 20in long, and put up a helluva fight. I'm guessing it weighed around 7 or 8 lbs???

Great job there!!!! Good thing you didn't go with those 14s, would've only caught musky I catch those drum jigging for walleye in the spring on the Tippecanoe river. They fight like a 10 pound bluegill. They will test your drag and let you know if you need to change line LOL. When you say carpsucker, are you referring to a hognose sucker? I remember carpsucker as a kid, but haven't heard the term since then. Good job fishing, I am hitting the big lake Friday....wind permitting

A carpsucker is a mix between a carp, and a sucker, just like the name lol, I thought they were just bottom feeders, but after catching 2 in the mouth, i now know otherwise. See for youself....

Carp and suckers aren't related; to the best of my knowledge. How could they be crossed? The picture you are showing me sort of looks like a quilback. Now I gotta do some Yahoo! research lol.

i dont know about the carpsuckers, never really considered it. i know white bass and rock bass can cross. you get a whiterock bass(real creative) but heres the kicker, the record white bass is like 6-8lbs, the rock bass record is like 5lbs, the record whiterock(a few years ago) is over 25lbs, go figure. its late, im rambling, the real reason i responded to this thread was my first experience with a CDSR-8 RH, the prototype lure the club sent out to me, so i gave it a try, in about half an hour of casting into a small pool, i hooked about a 8lb carp(in the mouth) i aslo cought a 6inch freshwater clam, must have draged it across the clam while it was open and it clamped right down on it, couldnt even get it off. had to change lures to another one that i had gotten out of the catch of the day boxes, same lure though. very next cast i snaged the bottom, and had a wad of something stuck on the hooks, just before i reached out and tore it off the hooks, i realized what it was. thats right i caught a used condom off the bottom of a pond in the middle of town. pried it off with a stick and went home and havent fished there since. jeff

I didn't think members of the Temperate bass family could cross with the Sunfish family. Holy cow it is a crazy world under them waves lol.
speaking of which, has anyone caught a tiger trout?

Well, after doing some research on this it looks that the white rock is what we call the wiper here in Indiana. It is a cross between the white bass and the striper. It does get huge. I think the carpsucker is the quilback carpsucker. We just call it the quilback for short. Sort of like the bigmouth and smallmouth buffalo. We don't distinguish. Okay, I suppose I should do some work since I am getting paid

Okay, now that I have spent way too much time on the subject. I have came to the conclusion that the picture you are showing is the river carpsucker. (not a quilback at all). There is also a Highfin Carpsucker, but I don't think that is it. Highfins only get to be about 12-16 inches long. Any way, it is one of those I have spent too much time on this, but atleast it was paid research LOL.

Well, I snagged my lucky gold no eyed x-rap that i caught my big drum on.(it had no eyes because of hitting the bridge above while casting :S) And now replaced it with a silver one. So far it hasnt met up to the the standerds of the gold one, but i did manage to catch another nice small mouth. I guess i'll have to keep using it to see if its as effective as my gold one.

Well guys, I just got back from Florida this morning, and had some pretty good fishing the last couple of days on these babies. I caught around 30 ladyfish, which are refered to as the poor mans tarpon, and boy do they fight! while wading in a saltwater river close to the drop off, I used my olive green #8 x-rap, and reeled slowly with an upward twich. Once I figured out where the school was at, the fun was on. It was about my 15th ladyfish, and in an attempt to unhook it, I decided to grab my lure while it was in the fishes mouth. The fish started to shake around, causing the lure to slip, and causing the front pair of trebles to dig into my finger. After a small battle underwater with the fish, I went to shore, and decided that I needed to go to the hospital to get them out. After an hour and a half visit to the hospital I returned to the river and continued to fish the same lure, but with new hooks since they had to cut my other pair. And caught about 15 more of these beautys. I still love my #8 X-RAP
