Well I'm back!
It ended up being a great trip. I went with a heavy heart.
The weather was, all over the place, cool, warm, hot & humidand that was only one day.
Caught a lot of fish, some species more than others.
It seemed like, I missed the "great' walleye bite by a couple of weeks
(isn't that what they always say,
"you should have been here last week")
Well, I caught walleye's, jumbo perch, Northern's, Laregmouth & Smallmouth Bass and several species of panfish.
Like I said, I caught more of some species than others..
Northerns, the lake is over-run with them.
While the locals do get a few of size (12 lbs or better)
Them get them in the winter and not many of them.
We caught a shit-ton of hammer-handles over the week.
I guess in way, it helped in other ways.
Spring seemed to be about 2 to 3 weeks behind this year up there.
We looked at going after other species for half day's.
We took one morning and decided to see what the Largemouth were doing.
They didn't disappoint me. We hit as the were coming onto the beds,
staging up in what I would call mid-water.
The topwater bite lasted all that morning, I had to re-place the back feather treble on my
Brand New #7 Skitter-pop in Shad.
They just tore it up!!!
Best top-water bite I've ever had up here.
The bass population on this lake has exploded...
I guess it's because of 'catch & release'
I'm here to tell ya, they do taste good...
You betcha. I kept a few....
Only kept males, between 15 to 19 incher's
How good was the largemouth bite,
that morning I out fished my Dad 3 to 1
I using a skitter-pop, he was using a classic nip-i-diddee.
He boated around 30 fish, not counting the "blow-up's"
After a quick- mid-day nap,
I notice my tackle bag has been raided.
Luckly they didn't get all my spare Skitter-pops in shad.
Like I've mentioned, I had a great time, all things being taken into account.
Ate fish almost every night....
Enjoyed the company of family...
Really enjoyed the sights and sounds on the north-country.
(man, I'm getting old)
Thought abouth the years I have been coming up here.
Thought about the one year I wasn't able to come up here.
(I got Ziggy, that year)
Hell, I thought about Ziggy everyday I was up here.
I miss my Buddy.
Looking back, he was there, everyday..
He ended up being what made this trip stand out in my mind.
Sorry to sound so sappy, Guys,
But he was more to me than I can really explain.
He was there though quite a bit of interesting times in my life.....
Anyway,
The fishing was great....
I had a great time (all things considered)
And now I'm back to face the basic grind of work.
My house is too quiet....
