I know some of you guys are braid users. I want to switch to braid on my small spinning reels and [hopefully] a new baitcaster that I really want to be able to buy.
So which braid would you guys recommend? So far I am leaning towards PowerPro and waiting for the new Sufix braid to hit the shelves towards the end of the year.
I would be fishing in saltwater most of the time.

nigel i get 300yrds, spool up just 150, then turn it mid season, so i use 150 yrds a season, backing would be last seasons line. but if i get a fish run ,100yrds would be good enough, depends what you fish for. i use 15lb from may to end of aug then 40lb up to december 15, depending on the river conditions.

That sounds like a wise idea. I will probably spool up all 300yds first time and then use your idea about 'last season's line' next time

power pro all the way!!! Go for 50lb, i use it because you never ever loose any lures, whatever you snag, you will always get your lure back because with 50lb, you can straighten your hooks out.

another vote for power pro 50lb...was able to yank my new rapala bait off a tree branch today...grabbed line by hand, wrapped it around my hand, and pulled it off after trying with rod 4 times...you should see how much the hook bent!

I use 8/30 PowerPro on my crankbait rod and 6/20 on my plastic's rod. I also use backing and spool on about 50-60 yds. I used to full spool, but realized that even though I was using both ends, there was a lot of line in the middle that was being wasted. I spool up, use it till it turns white, reverse it, use it till it turns white and replace it. I have very minimal waste this way. The stuff is so durable I've went from respooling at least once a month to respooling once a year, which has dropped my fishing line expense from over $150 a year to less than $50.

Currently I am using Sufix Performance Braind 8/20 (yeah I use 8# instead of 6# leader), spooled 150yard on my 2500 class spinning reel. The Sufix line is easy to manage, good knot strength, and like any other braids it is a bit noisy when you reel it in. Good price specially after the $6 or $10 rebate that they are having now. Another brand that I am going to give a try is Samurai Braid, more expensive but very thin. Samurai's 30# has similar diameter as Sufix 20#.

Is braid not like mono, in the sense that you have to spool mono the correct way so as to avoid twisting the line?

To be honest, I don't think I am qualified to answer that, probably someone here can help us both with the question. Basspro shop is only 10 minutes walk from my place and I always have them spooled my reels everytime I changed my line, unless it's an emergency.

Honestly Power pro doesn't live up to any hype, always has gave me wind knots, it also digs into itself more while a fish is pulling drag and it snapping while casting. To me it's a knock off brand. I've had better exprience with the regular Spiderwire braid, it's less slippery on the spool, the only thing better with the power pro than the spider wire is that the power pro keeps its color alot longer..but that still don't do you any good if the line is crap. Now for new Suffix braid I have no comment as I haven't tested it out yet.

I'm with you "slickrick". I relayed my unfortunate experience with Power-Pro braid on a different thread. It buried itself into itself, snapped on my cast carrying my Rapala up into a tree on shore. I'll stick with Fluoro for all my baitcasting duties, in fact, the only "super" type line somewhat like braid that I have faith in is Crystal Fireline. I use it for many of my spinning applications. But, you'll find many members here swear by braid - to each his own.

I might going to give this Crystal Fireline a try next season and see how it goes. It does have good reviews in various websites so there is gotta be something good about it.
