Which brand of 'snaps' do you use? Are they all the same or are there certain ones to avoid? I was checking on eBay and some look good, with specs and all, whilst others just list a size (and 100 or 1,000 pcs). I don't need hundreds - just a few for ultra-lite and regular (25lb?) fishing. Is 'duo-lock' a brand name or a description? I am somewhat confused Any help appreciated

I don't know that brand is all that important, my guess is with something like terminal tackle such as snaps, split rings, three-way rings and such, most of what you find in the store is probably all made in the same plant in People's Republic of China. Its probably more important to choose based on your size, color, and application preference. There are two main types though. One being the Duo-Loc that you mentioned (not sure, but I think it is a brand and a type) which is a bit bulkier, often sold with a ball bearing swivel attached, and usually only in nickel. The more unobtrusive design, which I prefer, usually go under the name "Fast-Snap" or "Bass-Snap". They come in many sizes and colors (nickel, black, red). There is a third type as well called a cross-Lock snap, kind of a hybrid between the two. I've seen it with or without the swivel attached and in either nickel or black. Hope that helps, or at least gets you looking in the direction you want.

I am using the fast lock bass snap #2 without the swivel that I bought from basspro. I only use the one with the swivel when I Caroline rigged my bait to prevent line twist. I don't know how to attach a picture yet, but here is the link to it www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_7816____SearchResultsdon't get frustrated if the snap occasinally gets tangled with the front hook. it will happen once or twice.

fox do some good clips, you probably have seen a lot of their stuff while you were here in the UK. Any of their clips are good, but i would personally go for cross locks. As long as you stick with clips from major companies, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. A cheaper clip opened up on me a few weeks ago, i nearly lost my frog popper. I was lucky i was using a floating lure, as i was able to net it and get it back. Haven't used that trace since.

when i go fishing for chubs or bass, normal, cheap snaps.
if i go for wels, with medium tackle i use 30 lbs steel wire, else with the heavy rod i use 80 lbs berkley cross locks tied to a 60 kilos kevlar leader (when i snag on rocks or plants, the treble opens!!!)
