A teenager from the kibbutz was scuba diving near Acco (Israel) when he found a MaxRap13 stuck in the rocks. He passed it on to me So how well did the MaxRap stand up to the corrosive nature of saltwater? Rescued MaxRap's back with detailYou can see that the lure has been in the water for some time by the barnacles already firmly attached to it's back. What about the fittings? Rescued MaxRap with detailThe hooks have long gone as has the front oval split ring (another forum post was complaining of rust on the front split ring) but the rest of the fittings are rust free! Yes there is some discoloration but that is probably from the rusted out hooks. There is also some discoloration under the paint near the tail but it is not on the ring nor split ring at all. The paint on the back is scratched off quite a bit but that is probably due to the action of the continuous movement of the waves rubbing the lure against the rocks that it was snagged on. So what does all of this say about Rapala quality? Change the hooks to saltwater ones and ditch the front oval split ring. Then this lure is ready for anything that saltwater fishing can throw at it.

I never doubted Rapala's quality, and this finding firmly implanted my confidence in them even more. A little scrubbing, some hooks, an oval split ring and this baby will be as good as new but with battle scars.
btw, did you find any cracks on the body?

I cleaned it up using some fresh squeezed lemon juice from a tree in our yard Apart from the missing paint on it's back it's looking pretty good and ready for some new [saltwater] hooks

That looks to be in overall OK condition considering it has been submerged in the saltwater for who know what period of time. Nice find.

that's nice
i remember i "caught" a cdj 9 while fishing with a spoon, and except for the hooks, it was in great conditions. i just cleaned it, replaced hooks and rings, and it was like new, now it's in my tackle box (btw, i had another cdj equal to this one and, except for the hook, i wouldn't be able to distinguish between them)
