Hello All, New guy just saying hi. Also I fished the Ohio River at the Pike Island dam yesterday and the smallmouth bite was on!! I only got to fish for about 90 minutes, but I caught 10 smallies. 3 real good ones. I used a total of 2 baits (Rapala of course). XR-6 in Glass Ghost and a JSR-4 in Silver Shad. They were SLAMMIN that JSR-4!! I LOVE a good smallie fight!

I wish there were smallies located closer to where I live, but I hate driving far to fish, it just means less time on the water for me! Again, welcome - any questions feel free to ask!

Thanks Fishhooked, I have been catching smallies on Rapala's for years. I got my personal best just last year at 5 pound 3 oz. Thats a rare fish around here. Again, thanks for the welcome, and I look forward to ALOT of future visits to the site. Great Site!!

Thanks again all, Stopped by my spot again today for a few casts. No smallies, but two nice Hybrids SLAMMED that XR-6. Also caught a rockbass that was just a little bigger than the Rapala! I may try and sweet talk the wife into lettin me buy about 6 more of those puppies! Our wlamart had a bunch of them on sale for $4.50 each. I should have bought every one of them! Oh well, live and learn I guess.

I can't wait till I can start fishing for smallies. In Minnesota this year that means I have to wait until May 29th. But the regulations are there for a reason, so no sense complaining. I'm fortunate enough to live about a 3 minute car ride from one of the best smallmouth fisheries in the midwest. If you fish the area everyday like I try to, you are pretty much guaranteed a 6 lber at least once a year. And that's from shore, as I am a broke college student. haha.
Problem is knowing those fish are sittin there waiting to be caught makes it very tough to wait a month or two after ice out to get the opportunity to fish for them.
Hope the rest of you are having luck with the smallies.
