Thought you folks would like to see how we fish from the rocks here in Israel: Is this guy crazy or What? You might think this daft or down right foolish but this is how they fish from the rocks here. We don't have that many rocky outcrops that you guys have but do have loads of these flat reef type rocks that are semi-submerged close to the shore. You have to get your feet wet to get out to them and get wet from the occasional wave splash but they do afford access to deeper water that you can't get to from the shore itself. The water isn't cold either - at the moment it's about 24C and in the summer about 27C. Winter gets colder with about 17C and anglers wear waders then! Obviously one has to be careful about the weather and sudden changes! The tides in the Mediterranean are nothing to speak about with only about a 40-60cm difference between high and low tides; so there isn't any danger of getting stuck on some rock and not being able to make it back to shore.

After I posted the first photo I realized that as it was taken using the zoom it's not possible to get the reality of where this guy is actually fishing and how far from the shore he is. So, here is a photo I took earlier when I was walking along the beach. It is the same guy on the same rock; only this time you can get a better idea of where he actually is in relation to the shore. No - not the girls! The small figure on the horizon in the center of the photo - you have to peer a bit but you can see his fishing pole quite easy.

That's a big @$$ rod. We occasionally use cane poles like that for panfishing in the states.
Looks like a lot of fun.
