They just look pretty sweet. If you don't know what a grayling is, click the link and watch the clip. GraylingI thought I would start a thread to see what everyone wants to catch SOMETIME in their lifetime. Come on guys, lets hear about some of your DREAM fish. Pictures, Videos, Links....anything.

Hey Matt, A Grayling would be a neat fish to catch.Aren't there a few streams in Michigan that still have a small population of them Top of my list would be a GIANT MUSKIE I have caught quite a few of them but I think my biggest is only 49 inches. .I seen one that weighed 45 pounds caught in the Menominee River where I do most of my muskie fishing so I know they are there. Its just getting one of those stubborn buggers to bite Who ever came up with the saying that the Muskie was The Fish Of 10,000 casts" wasn't kidding

There are a million kinds of fish I haven't caught that it's pretty embarassing...then again NJ is hardly a fishing haven I've never caught a northern or a muskie so that would have to be up there. But I would have to definitely say a tarpon. And not fly-fishing for one either, I want to LAND that bastard and try to hold it! I went bonefishing with my friends over 10 years ago and it was a blast...seeing those silver kings in the water I wanted to desperately try for one!

I'd love fish salmon and... well... smallies! I've heard so much about them, but here we only have largemouth.

I'm not sure Steve. If there are streams with grayling in Michigan, I have not heard about them. I've heard about them in Canada and Alaska.
I also want to someday catch Peacock Bass, Goliath Grouper, a HUGE Shark......heck, I cant even list all of the different fish I want to catch. ;D

I've never caught a northern or a muskie so that would have to be up there. I have been fortunate to catch both a Pike and Musky....just not very big ones. The largest Pike I caught was around 37" and that was with a net. It was trying to eat my stringer of walleye and he wouldn't let go, so I netted him. Then I was trolling for walleye and hooked up with a 25" Musky. That is the only musky I've ever caught. On a fly-in trip to Canada, I did have on a Pike that would have measured OVER 50"!! It was absolutly MAMMOTH!! It was my cousin and I fishing out of this boat. We were fishing for about an hour and I caught 5 or 6 pike by now. All small(under 30"). I was using an XR-8 G and we were long line trolling in a little cove off of a big lake. All of a sudden I felt this little tap. I pulled the rod foward thinking it was a rock or something and there was nothing there so I dropped the rod tip back and felt a tap tap. I set the hook and my rod just doubled over!! I yelled at my cousin to stop the boat and I fought this fish for about 15-20 minutes. I had him up to the boat 2 TIMES!! The net that the camp provides is too small to net a 30" pike so I'm trying to get this stupid fish of a lifetime in the boat with my hands. Then he makes one last run and my trophy disappears along with my lure!! That was the only XR-8 G that I had along and we didn't get another hit the rest of the morning. To this day, losing that fish still pisses me off!!

This is my second year trying to catch a muskie, maybe with my new custom rapala it will happen. I would also like to land a smallie over 5 lbs. My biggest so far is 3.55 lbs and it needs to happen this weekend in the 2 day bass championship of the NBSFA.

im still hoping to get out on big water and go after mahi mahi and marlin. however, for some reason, the golden trout has some sort of stange draw to me, i dont fly fish, so thats one strike against me, but im sure they would bite on raps, RR-4 i bet would do nicely. i live 2 hours away from some of the best charter boat salmon fishing in the great lakes, and i still havnt made it there. but if i won a trip to anywhere in the USA to fish, it would be a white sturgeon tripGod. the chance at a fish over 10ft, hard to pass up. a legal musky would be awesome, but i just cant get into it, i would cast and cast and cast, then pick up on some of the more active pike and forget all about musky. im still musky-less, of any size. top 5: golden trout white sturgeon mahi mahi 150lb+ halibut alligator gar
wierd, huh?

I gotta dig those pics out and scan them. Man I am telling you those bones sure make the reels scream when they take off, amazing power and speed in a small package.

This might sound goofy, but someday I'd like to hook a bass. No really, I hear they're good eatin'! I've never caught one...ever...then again, since I moved out here, there aren't any. As for pike and grayling, we've got those! The pike are nicknamed 'slough sharks' in these parts...they kill EVERYTHING. Even baby geese fall to the pike. As for the story of the net being too small, that's a regular situation here. Normally when we're pike fishing we bring a small baseball bat with us...it doesn't kill the pike but stuns it long enough to get your lure out, with all your fingers still attached! Swan Lake just West of here is being groomed as a trophy lake for Lake Trout and Pike. It's nuts...it's a long day to pull one of those big puppies, and normally it has to be when the weather's crappy, but when the hit, it's insane.... As for Muskie, we used to snag the bad boys when I lived just outside Montreal along the St. Lawrence River. Like the man said....the fish of 10,000 casts... Even then, you could be reeling the thing in and all of a sudden it just spits the lure at you and flips you the 'fin'. Best we ever did was just over 40" and that was when I was a kid in junior high...haven't hit another one like that since. So, back to the topic...yep, bass. That would be awesome. Then again, hooking wild rainbows on a fly is pretty sweet...

If I never catch another fish of any kind or size, I feel like I've caught my share. Now I have more fun watching the grandkids catch them. Just trying to give them the love of the great outdoors that I have.
