Bass in the UK

I used to live in the UK and never heard of Bass fishing - the fresh water varieties.
So how come there are bass in every other nation (not counting the ME countries) except the UK?
They got them in Europe, Japan, South America etc.; so how come the UK don't have them?

in the UK there is the perch, just like in the Netherlands. Even here there isn't the bass, BUT there is in the nordsea the seabass and you can catch that bass at the shore in the UK and the netherlands, so....

Old thread this To answer the question though I doubt there's any real interest in them here in the Uk. I don't reckon there would be any money to be made in stocking them into some fishery and lure fishing just isn't big enough here to probably justify doing so.
