Does anyone here use a jigging Rapala for bass fishing? I've caught a lot of walleye on them and was wondering how they would work for smallies? Any suggestions on size or colors would be appreciated.

I have never targeted bass with jigging raps, but I have caught bass on them while walleye fishing. I would imagine they would work considering one of the bass's main food source is minnows and other small fish. As for colors....I guess I would try and match the jigging rap as close as I could with the minnows in the particular body of water. My goto is the metallic perch #7.

Have just seen some jigging raps here at Walmart. I have never used one before but will definately be trying them in a couple of weeks when icefishing opens. They should be good for pickeral.

They work great on Erie thru the ice. I've caught walleye on the perch, firetiger and silver and blk colors. I have baited the treble with a minnow head but was told minnows ruin the action of the lure. Does anyone use live bait on theirs?

I have some Jigging Shad Raps that I haven't tried yet. I need to make friends with someone around here that has an auger, I'd love to try ice fishing someday

Most of the time in the winter I will tip them with a minnow head. If you let the treble hook hang straight down one of the points will line up with the body and that is the one that you put it on. It will keep the lure weight in line. In the summer I do not tip them. I have caught several smallies on these when working for walleyes. Ted I have 2 augers (I get the gas powered, you can use the TED powered). Come on over.

Just thought i would pop this question in here: Can the jigging raps be used cast and retreive style, like jigging it back, or are they 100% vertical jigging lures? Sorry if it is a silly question, but i have no idea how they fish like.

Have only used my jigging rapalas once on an open water excursion to KY Lake in February some years back. Was sitting in 20-25 feet of still water, ended up foul hooking a small catfish. I do know that a lot of people rely on them up here in the northern midwest during the winter for ice fishing though.
