So how did everybody's year go with Rapalas? Here's a review of some of my tops this year with Rapala.
It all started back in January while I was ice fishing. I was jigging with a W7 GT and caught a new personal best 5.1 pound brown trout. That same day I was having a good time jigging up lots of "humpback" yellow perch.
Later on in the ice fishing season I had a good time jigging at another lake and caught lots of crappie and perch.
Once the ice had all melted and it was time to take the tackle boxes out, I hit the golf course I usually fish and caught a nice 6 1/2 pound largemouth with a SSR7 SH. That same day in the same spot I caught a 2 pound bass with the SSR.
In May and early June while the spring crappie were active I was having fun with twitching F5's and F7's on the surface for the crappie.
Once the water was warm enough for bluefish I got going with my SSP12's and SSR9's. I wasn't having much luck and the blues were slow this year. I did have a few days where I caught northern sea robins with a SSR9 SH and a few schoolie stripers with the SSR9. One day in August I was fishing for the blues but it was petty slow. As I'm riding my bike I saw a guy catching bluefish on the surface. I throw a SSP9 SSBMU out there and catch a few small bluefish. That was it for the summer blues.
Then one day in August while I was fishing a pond at the park I usually go to, I saw a fish come shooting out of nowhere like a torpedo. Caught a new personal best 3 pound chain pickerel on a SSR7 SH. Also caught a chain pickerel there with the SSR7 that had a trout in its mouth.
The J9 S was helpful to me one day this year at another pond at that park while I was twitching it on the surface making pickerel hit it.
Had some other days at the golf course and that park where the F, J, and SSR were helpful.
In October I decided to hit the fall bluefish run. Nothing was going on and once the Atlantic Assault hit our area the blues were gone. But the stripers were still around so one day while I was fishing on a park along the shore I saw bunker jumping out of the water and small stripers chasing them up and down the shore. A RNR7 BN was helpful and caught me 6 schoolie stripers ranging from 10" to 18". A few days later I caught a few small stripers with the RNR7 BN and SXR10 S.
Fall crappie weren't active at all.
Back in November I found a new late fall hot spot at the park with all of the ponds I fish at. Was twitching a J7 S on the surface one day which resulted in a few bass and pickerel. Kept on hitting that spot and caught a few more bass and pickerel with J7 S, J9 S, and SSR7 RFSH. The SSR7 RFSH was also helpful to me in catching my first fall crappie. Caught a nice 11" 1.1 pound crappie while twitching that SSR on the surface. Caught another 10" crappie a few days later with that same SSR.
That was my Rapala season and had a very good one with 2 new personal bests and 3 trophy fish all thanx to Rapala.
