I picked up one of the new Flat Raps and I am VERY impressed. It doesn't look like much, but it has quite the action to it. I think it will be one of those awesome lures that nobody really knows about.
Another great job by the Rapala staff!

Totally felt the same way. When I first saw them, I was like 'meh' - but after using it for the first time, great lure - and they cast great too.
Nothing like having the wobble without having the casting problems...when its windy out sometimes the Original Floater casts like a potato chip...

I would be inclined to say yes, I would think the smaller size might be better suited for that situation, since the larger body on the FLR-10 might cause too much drag in faster waters - just my opinion...

I was at BPS here the other day and I did not see any of these flat raps. When I go back next weekend I will see if they have any, Maybe even grab some in Perch color.

quick question, do these have the long cast system in them? No, these are all solid balsa but their shape seems to give them long-cast capabilities. My favorite size is the FLR-10.

OK, thanks for your help, im looking for a good lure to use in the sea in spain, im looking for something that casts as far as possible, and doesn't dive very deep at all. A maxrap would be ideal, but they are a little too big for bream (i will be mostly after bass and bream). They are also a little too expensive for what i am looking for, and i doubt that the little tackle shop in spain will stock them. On the other hand, i know that they have loads of long cast minnows, and i was gonna buy one of those anyway to use here in the UK for pike, so i will probably settle for one of those and my purple sardine floating magnum. Just wondering if there are any alternatives...

You can cast them surprisingly far on ultra-light gear.

You can cast them surprisingly far on ultra-light gear. I might take my xrap over too then, but it might get snagged, but i will just swim out and get it. I can't really use lures that are too light, my fishing outfit in spain is very strong, a short rod of about 7 feet, that is extremely strong, i would say it was about 5lb test curve, i think it is a boat rod, i bought it because its light and strong enough to handle anything i want it to, and i can still use my tiny float gear for tiddlers as i only need to cast my float 10 feet at most. I use a huge fixed spool marlin reel that used to have mono line that must have been 50lb+, i took it off and replaced it with 20lb mono. I don't want to buy a new set up because there isnt much point, i don't fish properly over there, i just make do with whatever tackle i have got as i just fish for whatever comes. I might be getting a max rap anyway, i have made a list of what i am going to order for christmas, and it comes to less that £24, so i might buy a max rap as they have them on offer for under a tenner! so far i am ordering: Fox Rage 50mm fat willy lure in rainbow trout Fox Rage split ring pliers Rapala 7cm skitterpop silver blue (finally getting one of these!) Deer Creek golden eyez (for putting on my homemade lures) Check these out, they look so realistic: www.deercreek.co.uk/Crystal--Gator-eyes--dumbbells.html

If you're using 20lb mono that is really going to adversely affect your casting distance, especially if you're using smaller lures.

i know, but im not gonna change it. 20lb isn't that thick after all, and im not out to break any records, i would just like to catch a fish on a lure out in Spain. Just bought a max rap in red head, not my favourite colour, but i will give it a try anyway. It was the only colour they have got in stock. I also bought my fox rage fat willy lure and split ring pliers. They are completely out of stock of skitter pops, so i am going to buy one off ebay another day. As for the eyes, it will be a while before i get those too. I will let you guys know what i think of the maxrap when i get it.

I bought my flatrap because i had to buy something It was a chrome 8 and within my first cast i was allready suprised about the castabillity of the thing, I started tot retreat the thing and within a couple of seconds a Pike jumped right on it. It is a great lure! looks like a real baitfish wiggeling around. very versatile and a perfect slow rise! Have been catching alot on it and the chrome allreade comes off now. I boucht 2 10's in firetiger and blue/chrome. I hope to go fishing soon. I might put on a collection of flatraps besides my J-11 collection

Unbeatable, the same goes for the Clown color as well.

I've owned my Flat Rap #6 in Hot Tiger for a 2 months now. I found that my Stern 8lb Flouro is the best for insuring long casts. I tried 10lb and 12lb mono and they hindered performance...especially the 12lb...yikes that was bad. This baby casts wonderfully provided you have the right line, and a good pole to sling that baby out there.

One of the best lures out there... Casts like a bullet!!! Remove the split-ring and use the Rapala-Knot... When you twitch it, point your rod towards the lure so it is slack... The Flat-Rap will almost do a 180 and face a following fish!!! Irresistible!!! They will smack it... Catches everything that swims and the speckled-trout seem to especially like it... The clown is great because you can see the chartreuse stripe on the top of the lure from far away... Sometimes on the pause, you can watch the stripe moving away, so set the hook!!! Works great on a 3-way swivel trolling set up, too...

The only downfall I've noticed about this otherwise superb lure is the triangular-lip it features tends to come out easily or just break off totally... But for the different species & quantity of fish it catches, it's well worth the money... Just be sure to pack more than one on your fishing trip!!!

I may have to try out a flat rap after reading this Definitely fishes more impressively than it looks at first; they are worth it for castability alone...

i tried out the new size 6 for trout this summer in a small, semi-quick stream, it did well, looked great, going to have to try out some suspendots on them to get it down in the column a little deeper because they really are pretty shallow, id say 2 foot maybe when pulled fast. bacon
