I just bought a Risto rap 5 in shad color. I opened the box and the lure had saltwater treble hooks... is that common or the owned changed the hooks. The box was sealed from one side. Thanks

Thanks I am wondering if this is one of those 'catch of the day' Rapalas I had seen before... I say this because once I was lucky enough to stumble across a ton of RFR-4s and RFR-5s in a clearance bin...but what was strange about them all is they all had silver or saltwater-grade hooks...it didn't make any sense... I am wondering if those were factory errors where maybe someone put the wrong hooks on?

All most all of the baits from Japan have the salt water hooks . Well they used to I should say . Now all most all of them are the black VMC .

Thanks for your response..... I don't really care about the hooks, I was doubting the authenticity of the lures... It looks exactly like my other ristos, just with saltwater hooks. Perhaps they mixed the Japanese lures with the other, as ristos are already discontinued. Did you ended up buying those RFR??

Hi Ted and others.
it could be nice to have a pic here, cause i remember some ristos which had silver hooks, i guess this was the BSD and GSD, which seemed to be some special run in boxes without hang tags. these were not the heavy saltwater hooks, just the usual wire in silver, and i think they were round bend.
i think we should not mix up any silver hook as saltwater variety. sometimes they are just not bronzed or black, but silver with usual size wire.
and i think the saltwater is zink or perma steel, but the shiny silver ones is chrome or tin. but here i may be totally wrong. any experts in metal chemistry out there?
best, wolfgang

I have also had some RNR's with these silver hooks. And like Wolfgang mentioned they didn't look like the saltwater hooks I have seen on other Rapalas.
They seemed to flimsy so to speak,so I agree with Wolfgang on this I think they are just a plain silver hook.
