Are there any differences between the braided line and spectra braided line?

I've only tried the Spectra Braided Line, and only once. Loaded up my baitcaster with a $16 dollar spool of the red stuff- first cast, good distance, second cast, it buried itself in the reel, snaps carrying my rapala DT up onto the shore into the woods, and, broke off so buried I couldn't find the tag end. Luckily I had other rod & reel combos with me on the boat, so my day wasn't ruined. That evening I spent over an hour carefully picking and snipping the line out of my new Quantum KVD baitcaster so as not to damage it it. Never again, re-spooled with Berkley 100% Flourocarbon, and it works silky smooth. I realize this may not be typical, but I for one am not a fan of the braid. I do like the "superlines" like FireLine for my spinning gear though. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the story rocfish, I might going to try the powerpro on my spinning reel to learn how to use it before spooling for my baitcaster. btw, how is the Quantum KVD? I am using Daiwa for baitcaster.

Good luck with that braid. As far as the Quantum KVD baitcaster is concerned, I like it! Really smooth, lots of bearings for the money, nice profile, fits well in the palm. And, I was especially pleased when I purchased it last year at Bass Pro Shops because it was on sale for 89 bucks, and they were running a kids charitable fishing promotion, where if you brought in an old reel to donate they gave you a coupon for money off a new reel, I ended up getting it for about $75. I see it in their catalog this year for $109.

Are there any differences between the braided line and spectra braided line? All lines have their idiosyncrasies, but the differences in braid are minor compared to differences in braid and mono, and braid and flourocarbon. I've been using Power Pro for about three years after using mono my whole life and I wouldn't spool anything else on my reels. I did have to have a custom crankin rod built to compensate for the no stretch, but that just a good excuse to have another custom rod built!!! Oh yeah, first post on the site, glad to be a member.
