I personally love to fish in smaller ponds and rivers. There are some really nice fish to be caught on these waters and its easier to figure out where the fish are hiding. They are not by any means easier to catch in smaller bodies of water. Another thing I like about these places is that you usually have the place to yourself

yes, i fish in small channels too and agree with you.
it's not always easier than larger places, you have to learn a different way of fishing and you must be quite careful on what you do

Today the waters shown above made my day! If anyone is visiting the Netherlands, drop me a message, I'll take you here for some fine pikefishing!

I miss fishing those little back water areas. When I was a kid I used to fish a lot of small streams and ponds in Upper Michigan.

Yesterday I was at the swims shown above, in the middle of poaring rain and snow I managed to catch a pike on a handbuild streamer lure. just 3 inches below the surface he took it!

We ice fish the smaller ponds - they freeze first! They also get "tough" in late winter when the oxygen diminishes! Usually - anglers overlook the small "diamonds in the rough"!
Kees - I like how you call them "swims"! Where else but on RapalaNation?

In the Netherlands we call em "stekjes" and I can remember Chris Yates calling it Swims on his television show "a passion for angling"
The episode was called "midwinter madnes" where Bob James was fishing on Chris's "swim"
litteraly saying "what are you doing at my swim?"
Catching 30 LB pike on dead bait. really a must see!
Ever since I am using that term when typing enlish.

For Good Canadian fishing, go to Alberta Fish & Game Assoc. website for info about seasons, species, ponds & rivers, etc. Great times to be had here!
