I recently bought a lure (fox rage fat willy), and on the site i bought it from, it says it works well for these. I always wondered what an asp really looked like. Looks to me like a cross between a roach, a bream, and a barracuda lol

John, I have never eaten an Asp but I do think that they are, besides being a very nice fish to catch, a very good meal too!!

Just from the looks of the tail on that beast - they look powerful!
BTW - Love the Ladybug Salmo and the Methiolate Grub!
Looking forward to a pic. when you catch one Kees! Best of luck!

Unfortunately I did not catch anything, no bite, no movement at all, used all of the baits on different tactics. just nothing, like if the water was empty.
Altough it was a very nice day in the sun along the water,.. better luck next time.

Almost looks like a smaller version of the Tarpon we have here in Florida. Do they jump when hooked a lot and how big do they get??

It is really a different fish then Tarpon. This is only the second I have caught en neighter of both jumped during the catch.

well, this year i had only 1 so far, maybe around 7 lbs (on SSR7 SFC). last year i had on a rainy evening 11 in a couple hours (on CD7 GFR). great fighting fish, some even call this the "fresh-water-tarpon". no jumping though, but they hit surface lures (e.g. SP7, STORM chug bug 6 cm, Lucky Craft SAMMY 65) with full speed. the only fish which is breaking me off sometimes right after striking, or rapping my knuckles with the fly reel handle. there are stories that these were growing to well over 30 lbs in the east (where it seems this fish is originally coming from), but here one over 10 lbs is very big; i had maybe one this big so far.
best, wolfgang

i forgot.
the meat is white and tasty, but this is a white fish, and has the most bones of them all.
