I've been waiting for the winter to arrive which is meant to herald the start of the bigger fish moving closer inshore for spawning and feeding on the [supposedly] abundant baitfish. Well, I've been out a few times since the beginning of December, getting up well before dawn and spending until noon (the hours around dawn are meant to be the best) standing on the rocks throwing all sorts of hardbaits -- nothing, zilch. I'm beginning to wonder if there are any fish out there We have a new youth leader on the kibbutz who loves spear fishing. He gets out about 600m from the shore in his kayak and free dives in about 8m on the reefs. He also is bewildered at the sparseness of the fish this winter. Perhaps it's overfishing or maybe just that the fish haven't started moving inshore yet. I got up at 2am this morning and after breakfast and a longish drive, I was fishing on the rocks by 4:20am. Yes it was cold and was raining a bit and the waves were occasionally high enough to give me a bit of a soaking every so often (good job I had a good warm dry one piece ski type overall - but no water proof boots!). Still no fish Not even a take or anything. Maybe in March...... So I need some encouragement
