Got my first few fish of the year today!! First I caught a pickerel with an F-7 Hot Steel, while twitching it on the surface. On the next cast, I caught a bass on an F-7 Shiner, while just using a slow retrieve. Later on, I ended up catching two more small bass on an F-5 Minnow. This is the second year in a row when the first fish I could catch actually came on smaller Rapalas. I can't even get a bite on the bigger lures, but the little ones seem to do the trick.

I don't know where you fish or what the primary baitfish are, but I'm having the same pattern at my local lake. Usually you can bust their butts on a Pointer 78 or 100 but I can't get a bite on anything except the Pointer 65. And it's actually not the typical twitch, twitch, pause. The only way I can catch them is to find big rocky flats and just slow reel the pointer, and the rod will just load up with weight when they take the bait. When I catch one they spit up real small, 2inch shad.

I am really fortunate with the Netherlands with no ice on the water, I've allready caught about 30 fish this year.

Got two more bass today!! Got the first on a slow retrieve with an F-7 Shiner, which didn't surprise me because it was one of the few lures I have been successful with already this year. The second one though, came on a DT-FAT 3 custom from Joe's Custom Baits, in his Chartreuse Splatterback pattern. I was cranking it along the bottom, hit some type of structure and immediately paused the lure to let it rise up a bit and BAM, he nailed it. It was the biggest one I've got so far this year too, so I'll take it!!!
