What is your very first Rapala?
I remember that I got a F-5 in green minnow from a friend. I used to use inline spinners only. When I caught my first fish on it I have gone to the tackleshop and I still remember buying a Husky jerk 11 CLN and a J-9 Hot Tiger. This J-9 I have fished completely to trash. I ended up using it without the tailpiece.
So how about you guys?

I think the very first Rapala lure I ever had in one of my tackle boxes was a DD Fat Rap and it was my dads but I stuck it in my little tackle box cause I wanted a tackle box full of lures like my dad. It took up alot of space, which was great, cause I only had a handful of lures. LOL
I remember when I first started getting into river fishing the first Rapala I ever had real success on were the original floaters, 5,7, and sometimes 9 in rainbow trout and brown trout. I bought so many of those things I had like 20 original floaters and eventually lost them all. I don't know why but I thought the trout patterns would work to actually catch trout.

Mine was a DT-10 Shad that I bought along with a few other storm lures when I first started fishing. The funny thing is that I don't think I ever caught anything with it. The area where I was fishing was too shallow. The first rapala that I ever caught something with was a J-7 in Firetiger.

I always leaned on the JSR-4's in any color in the early days, then started gaining confidence... My fishing pal turned me on to braided-line and a local golf course pond from which he had an almost 9-pound fish on the wall already!!! We were going fishing early & drinking late, anticipating sunrise... Out of the blue, an old friend stopped by I hadn't seen for a year... I was awake, tying on my arsenal & he mentioned he had an old tackle-box in his truck... Curious of course, I had to look... Behold, an "original-wobbler-lipstick" still in the box with a $3.45 price-tag!!! After some bartering I soon had it tied on... I went on to catch probably over 80 largemouths on that same lure, that year & still my biggest bass till this point... Looks like it was hit by a belt-sander!!! Retired it, for now... It will always be my crown-jewel... Now I own about 550 between the collection & the soldiers... Forever on the hunt... Balsa rules!!!

Just a side-note, the Flat-Rap, in any size or color is in my opinion, the best lure going... On a 3-way trolling set-up, suspend-a-strips added or just casting... You can't fish it wrong... Twitch it or burn it, everything eats it!!! Instant classic...

F-7 Perch - and it was so long ago - it had the gold belly! Caught my first "artificial bait" walleye on it too! Funny thing is - I just found one in a tackle shop this summer - it was almost as exciting as buying the first one................almost!

ha, not only do i remember my first, i remember why and how. i was at the dentist, must have been like 10 or so, was reading outdoor life, it was an article about floating rapalas and how a guy had a hot lure, a f13 FT, and it lost its lip, he thought it was ruined, but kept fishing it, and found a new way to fish it, can kept catching fish. after the dentist i almost demanded my mother take me to the Shopko next door and i went in and found a F13 FT1 and bought it. I still have it, its nearly 20yo now, its marred with rust marks and rotting hooks, and i swear i have never caught anything on it. LOL. i have contemplated tearing the lip off, sometimes out of spite, but have not. someday, maybe, it will finally do its thing, but im not holding my breath.
