Am I the only one that manages to get the front treble hung up on the lip nearly every other cast? It's a real pain as it puts a lot of twist in the line reeling it back in. I tried replacing the front treble with a #14 but it also gets hung up every so often. Would it make much of a difference to the action and hook-ups if I was to swap the treble for a single hook? Apart from the hang-ups they are a great lure -- casts very well and has a great action.

I sometimes get this with some of the smaller lures i use, just remove the treble. In my opinion there is no need for two trebles on lures of that size.

In general, the less hooks you have on a lure the more action is has. On a mini fat rap, it would probably shake alot more and have more vibration without the front hook. Removing the rear hook would give it a wider, tail sweeping action.
Also, if you make it a single hook on front then it will affect the center of gravity, and the lure would be more likely to roll over on a fast retrieve. Just my 2 Cents.... I do alot of lure testing in my bathtub.... haha

I did some testing this morning in our swimming pool. I tried a few options: 1. Without the front hook but with the front split ring. 2. Without the front hook and without the split ring. 3. Without the front hook and without the split ring but pinched a small split shot where the front split ring should be. All tests were done using Power Pro 10Lb braid and without the split ring on the front nose ring but using a #1 (small) snap (although at the end of my tests I tied directly to the ring without a snap - didn't notice any difference in the lure's action). Results: Overall the lure worked best using #2. #3 reduced the action of the lure quite a lot. With regards to the possibility of the lure rolling during a fast retrieve, I only noticed it a tiny bit at a very fast retrieve that I don't think anybody would actually use. Conclusion: Remove the front treble and its split ring and have no more front treble hang-ups Nigel

Great info Nigel!
The mini FR is one lure that I have not used much, but with smaller cranks seemingly the rage nowadays, it looks like I'll have to give it a try!
Thanks for sharing that with us!
