Looks genuine to me. One of the give-aways on custom lures is that the painter doesn't mask off the lip completely the way that the one in your photos shows. For me a completely 'clean' lip is a sure sign of a bait being original.

i think that is the first edition color of sd if you look at the early hj-13's some of the sd has a red belly on them also i just saw some on e-bay with a red belly very nice find john yes, the H-13 and the FR/SFR came in the old shad pattern, that was pearl with black back, orange belly, and black spot. like the one in you photo john, but ryans was done over a S fat rap, not over a pearl body. kind of a neat little find, something most people overlook, but thats what makes it hard to know just how rare it is, are there more out there that have just not been noticed, or is this really that tough. i know i have never seen one, great find in my book, and perfectly legit, either that or the painter removed the lip and then replaced it. bacon

Thanks Bacon. Yes, that is what I was trying to point out. I have never seen a SD on foil. Thanks for the post.
The regular Pearl SD have been made with 1.) Orange bellies and 2.) plain pearl colored bellies.

Wow, that's one helluva nice find.
I would bet the farm on that being an original pattern designed by someone within Rapala. Like Bacon said, it's too clean to be a custom job. You can look at that lure and tell it's a factory experiment. It seems like Rapala did alot of messing around with orange and red on bellies of lures.
Congrats on finding such a Gem. Where/How in the hell did you come across this thing?
