We had a thread on finding lures how about losing them? On average how many lures do you lose or retire from over use each year?
As for me I have never lost a lure, nor retired on from over use. But I'm new to this.

I don't think I've ever retired a lure due to overuse. I keep the battle scarred ones in the box, ready for more fights. But, I would estimate I lose somewhere between 3 to 5 a season to snags, breaks, and such. But, in my defense, this is counting those lost by my two fishing partners (my wife and daughter) who I allow access to my 50+ pound tackle bag. I don't get mad though, it's a part of fishing.

Way too many!!! I would say about 4-8 each year, and usually at least one I REALLY don't wanna lose. I just got a replacement SSR-7 Cln, which I lost last year. This year I lost only one so far, but of course it was my Maxrap in Redhead I won in the monthly giveaway. I know where it is though so I may do some once the water warms up a bit. I imagine that it has some company with it because people are always getting snagged on this particular fallen tree. I lost the first tail dancer I ever had on the same tree years ago and swam out to get that, so it's nothing I haven't been through before.

I usually come back from fishing with more than I leave with its called finding them in trees and going swimming to find them

on an annual basis i might lose 10-12 rapalas, years ago i wouldnt have lost that many, simply out of fear of losing them, but now i fish with no fear, if i get snagged, then so be it. at least alot of the lures i lose are floating and can be retrieved, mostly it seems like i lose spinners and buzzbaits. i figure it a part of fishing and dont worry about it anymore.

I've had days when fishing for Browns in the shallows. That can run me 5 or more lures a day. Thats not including the ones I break the bills off of.
Small price to pay for that 10 plus pound Brown : )

I loose way too many. At least one every time I go out. I seem to take a lot of risky chances.

I probably lose up to 5 a year. I lost one this year up under a dam. It was a fire tiger husky jerk and the next time I went to that dam I went further down under a bridge and found the same exact pattern and type of lure, but it was a different one because it was a little beat up. Pretty crazy.

I lose about a dozen a year (lost 3 at once last Friday night) and break the bills off another dozen every year.
Sure wish I could get some original floater replacement lips.

I loose about 10 lures a year tops! The day before yesterday I was out on a raft to get back a SP-9 I threw in just minutes before that. At the same time I retrieved a J-11 I lost last year.

I typically don't lose lures very often, but last night was sort of strange. I was trolling a flash perch taildancer which happened to be my favorite go to lure for walleye when what I suspect was a Northern pike hit the lure hard. I set the hook and snap!! No more lure. I put on a perch wally diver and continued to troll. Felt what I thought was weeds and pulled in a chartreuse back shad rap. I guess that eased some of the pain of losing the TD-7. Caught one walleye, 2 pike, and we couldn't keep the rock bass off our lures.

I do a lot of trolling in pickerel infested waters here in eastern N.C. Lost 6 husky jerks last Sunday to the toothy critters, but recovered my clown later in the day, floating past it on another pass... I generally lose close to a dozen a year... After last weekend I ordered some titanium-nickel leader material as small as I could find... Waiting to try it out this weekend... Losing those hard to find Rapalas hurts, but they won't catch anything looking pretty still in the box!!! Use them, lose them... It's all part of the game...

I actually got really lucky with a pickerel earlier this week. It came up to the surface to smack my Skitter Walk. It must have missed the lure completely, and bit right through the line, because when I tried to set the hook I had nothing on the end of my line, but the lure never went below the surface. I just paddled over to it as fast as possible, just hoping he didn't come up for a 2nd attempt!!

Lost anther tail dancer in flash perch I really don't want to use a steel leader, but it looks like I'm going to have to. Started using a tail dancer in flash clown and got two nice walleyes. Went to the local tackle shop to replace the flash perch tail dancers and they were sold out. Guess a road trip is in the near future.

nullnull.1-2 a year since Braid.. old Mono days, maybe 5-6. Also depends if balsa or plastic body..... I have lots of lures that after a big fight or a bad net job aren't running straight, but i don't count those as losses...LOL. Just need re-tuned. I know one thing, a balsa MR-7 in Bleeding Hot Olive will take about 75 walleys' carrying a 22" average in a trolled scenario that's about all she'll take, then this happens. This MR7 was trolled to death.

This year I've lost about 10. However, I've landed about 60 trout of varying types, and 15 largemouth bass.
I hate losing lures....it just sickens me - but the rewards are grand.

I don't get to go fishing a lot nowadays, so 2-3 a year.

Some years it can be over 100. But I agree with a lot of the others about taking risks. No guts - no glory!
I lose most of my Rapalas to Trees and Northern Pike. If I know I will be fishing around Northern - I tie up a leader out of either 20 pound Fireline or 30 pound Fluro. In the trees I have switched to heavy mono and light wire hooks - usually get most of them back now!

I lost at least 20 this year. After switching to Sufix 832 I have lost none, I wish I would have got that line when I first got the notion!!
