First fish 2011

So I woke up this morning to find a picture my cousin sent to my phone. It showed his friend holding a whole stringer full of smallies that were all 16+ inches that he caught out of my favorite spot, and he kept them I've been fishing that spot since I could hold a rod, and I have never kept a smallie before (I always throw them back so that the trophies will be there for years to come).
But on a better note, I went fishing to that spot when I got home from work and caught this 14 inch smallie on a DT fat1 in GFR and had another one jump out of the water trying to get it


I have a feeling this lure is going to be a good producer in that spot this year

Got my first fish yesterday for 2011 Boated 24 and released 24. Largest was 23 1/2 "All were caught on 9cm bleeding olive flash except 4 on J9 perch

A little late posting this up, but here is one from my first trip of the year down to KY Lake at the end of March:



It was unseasonably cold and rainy the whole week, but managed to catch about 6-8 one to two pounders in the four days we were actually able to get on the water.
Had the best luck on CNC74 Olive.

Is it still cold up north? Ours is getting warmer and soon I'll be able to wade without the waders - water temp is still only 23C

Here it is about 10C in water (water never gets warmer than 20C here in the summers) and evenings/night when I fish about 5C in air and hottest part of the day is maybe 15C. Been raining pretty much this weekend too so its pretty cold out there, especially for your hands!

This fish was caught at midnight. Soon after I caught a 78 cm and my friend caught a fat 81 cm so it was nice evening of fishing.

Wow, caught after midnight - did you release - I mean how far north are you and is it still light during the nighttime hours?

Our temperatures have been fluctuating this last month - some days it has got as high as 30C with the average about 24C; and the nights between 12- 20C. Spring is always full of changes. Our summer water temps are around 27-29C -- great for wading into the surf!

2.6Kg(?) 50cm Puffer fish caught on a Rapala Floating Magnum 7 Dorado on my ultralight gear.

Im just few kilometers south of arctic circle, almost already now pretty light 24 hours a day.

Of course I released it Gonna take it again next year.

Me too!!! I have two 15lb weights tied to mine!!! That's the only weightlifting my skinny ass does. Well that and the occasional 12oz curls I do!!(beer drinking)

thanks!! I will def. try to get perch on that swim again!! Normaly I catch really nice pikes at that small bridge.

I changed tactics yesterday, normaly I would cast away from the bridge far into the creek.
this time I skitterpopped along the sides of the bridge, between the bridge and the waterplants.
from underneath the bridge he came up, first attack was with hesitation but came back very fast and took it like a wild motherf*cker.

Unfortunately for me my first fish of the year was a silver bass on a #11 GFR.

These were some of my first limits. My Dad and I fished in a handlining tournament that I put on every year. #9 Purpledescent was the hot lure that night.
