My first carp ever. It was caught on a JSR-4 SBB. It must have been hungry...

Nice Ryan!! I have never caught a carp on a Rapala. Have foul hooked them before, but both times they came off before I could bring them in. I always caught them on bread or corn.

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought it was pretty cool to catch one on a Rapala. He sucked it right up.
I have heard that sweet corn or dough balls made of cereal/big red soda/salt/seeds works well. I have seen some big carp rolling around on the river that I usually fish, I will probably give it a try and see how good they fight.

Yea, I have a rod with 6lb test on it. Maybe I'll try to catch one on that in the next few days. That ought to be a good fight!!!

Very cool I have got them on a jig and a minnow but not on a crankbait. Were you working close and slow to the bottom? Very impressive and nice to have the camera along thats something I for get todo.

I snagged a 24 inch sucker on a rattlin rap on accident one time, but have never had a carp or sucker take a rapala

The spot I caught it was only about 3 feet deep, fast choppy water, with a rocky bottom. In 3 feet of water the JSR-4 was bouncing off the bottom and was actually moving pretty quick
That technique always works well for the Guadalupe bass there. LOL I thought I hooked a big one. It took line off my reel for a while.

Are you sure this is carp? looks more like barbel to me.
Carp here look a bit different.
Carp usualy don't bite on lures because they are herbivorian species.. They ocacionaly bite because the feel irritated by the lure..

I have never heard of a barbel fish before here. I really think it is a common carp that are found in area, but I could be wrong since it is my first one. I've caught a few weird fish lately in this area. I posted this one before. I'm sure a few members have seen this. It is from the end of last summer. Plecostomus:

The spot I caught it was only about 3 feet deep, fast choppy water, with a rocky bottom. . These are the ideal conditions for Barbel by the way! I am going Barbel fishing this weekend, I am going for fast choppy water with rocky bottom too! a cube of fresh cheese and some pellet baits.. bet that works! I you would like to fish for these things, I can send you some handmade hairrigs to use. no charge though..
