Ok folks so here it is! Pardon the pictures from the catalog, it's not the best camera in the world, but it will do until we can get official images from Rapala! I haven't gone through each page to see if there happens to be a color missing or anything. If I have not mentioned a lure line, then it remains unchanged from last year, to the best of my knowledge, anyway. I would like to thank the top-rung folks at Rapala USA for sending me this catalog....and also furthering our addiction! NEW LURES FOR 2012!!! Ted thank you for taking the time and puting this together. I know alot of people appreciate it.
I'm sure will be excited to see clown coming back in so many lures. Storm started pushing that color on a number of new baits this year. Intresting to see the increased colors in the Shad Rap RS after reducing colors in past years.

Looks good Ted Those Deep Jointed Husky Jerks sound interesting. I sure will have to try one out. Anything discontinued?

Some other observations of my own:
>Pearl Grey Shiner (PGS) is now absent on the Trolls-To Series
>Countdowns - seem to be missing some Bleeding colors, BBSD, BCSD, BOF
>PEP color seems absent from the TWR, SP, and SPR
I'll post more as I come across them...

I just realized that there are new sizes in the Clackin Minnows and Clackin Cranks, I will add that information to the original post. As fat as what is 'missing' or discontinued.....it's kind of hard to say but I do have my suspicions on some color patterns and sizes. As I come across them I'll post them and see if we can come up with a consensus...

Ted
Can you confirm that fat raps are still listed? I have this great fear that they will be discontinued.

Ted Can you confirm that fat raps are still listed? I have this great fear that they will be discontinued. They are still in the catalog; like I mentioned there is not any line that is entirely absent from last years catalog. I can't be positive, but last year Rapala introduced the MXR-11, MXR-15, MXR-17 on the Max Rap. Now it looks like only the MXR-11 & MXR-13 have made the cut. To me, that is a damning indication that the Max Rap has fallen far short of expectations, I'm guessing the price was a major factor.

I'm so stoked right now..... I don't know what to do with myself. I am so pleased with the new colors on the Shad Raps, both SR and SRRS. The clown on the SRRS looks excellent.
Thanks a million ted, looks like a lot of time and effort went into this. It's really nice to have a sneak peak at the 2012 lures.

For sea fishing the X-Rap Pop and the Ultra Light Minnow look very promising. At last a small minnow shaped lure with some weight that also looks like it will cast well. The lip looks like the Shad Rap ones.
I wonder if they will do a saltwater version of the X-Rap Pop?

Thanks Ted for posting this. I have to say though I'm fairly unexcited about most of the stuff, the RCW-Red Crawdad shad rap and HT-Hot Tiger JSR will be good for me personally. I have to say I always find it funny when I hear folks going on about the clown colour when it's considered a rubbish colour here. Hopefully Rapala Europe bring back some of our old colours in the floaters & countdown range.

All, Just so everyone is clear on this, my intent on posting what lures, colors, or sizes may or may not be discontinued - is not in any way intended to 'help people make money' or anything like that, it's really not. Yes it would be nice to know if a certain color or pattern might be discontinued, but my line of thinking is 'get your favorite colors/lures to fish with while you can', while others may see it as 'better stock up on these now so I can charge people double on ebay'. So everyone can take my interpretations anyway they wish, but if I am wrong about a certain size or color than I cant help that. I am definitely not witholding any sort of information, because I am one of the last people that has available funds to spend on countless lures for resale, especially lately. I would really rather this place be more about fishing and collecting, than talking shop about ebay or selling. I honestly believe that a lot of the insane prices we see on ebay are a direct result of this site, I really do, either directly or indirectly. Perhaps this isn't the thread to discuss this in but I don't get a chance to post here as much as I would like so I guess this can stay here for now. Perhaps I am just being too idealistic but that is just my view on things.

Are the new shad rap colors also available in the shallow shad rap?? I hope they are, I really hate how the bleeding colors are only available overseas and I'm hoping they don't do the same thing with the new colors.

I know my inlaw will be happy to see the clown color comeback and expand. Its his number one color for fishing. I cannot wait for the jointed Huskyjerk! I think the jointed floaters want to roll over at higher speeds to it would be nice if the huskyjerk does not do that.

Thank God the Clown's are coming back. Now maybe I won't have to keep them locked away from my fishing buddies when I take them handlining.

Hi. I'm brand new to the Rapalanation but had a question I'm sure someone can answer. Does/did Rapala make a shad rap with a square lip? I was fishing with a friend who was using a rapala that looked to be about a size 11 shad rap with a "squared/hexagonal" lip.
BTW, great job on the 2012 catalog photos!!

The only squared lip on a Shad Rap would either be a shallow shad rap, or countdown shad rap. The largest size is size 9, so the next best thing would probably be the Super Shad Rap which is size 14 - hope this helps!

Thanks for the help. It was definitely a rapala and not either a shallow or super. I'll look into the CD. Maybe it's not a shad rap? Great site !! I'll be here awhile

Hey MikeM, that sounds neat... I would like to hear what your buddy says about the lure, do you think you could get a picture of it?
I'm sure there's alot of Rapala prototypes out there that never made it into production, or it could have been customized by somebody.

|
|
Post by mikem25 on Jun 5, 2011 21:32:51 GMT -4
Yeah, definitely not customized. He has, however, many rapalas still in original packaging; he may have bought it a while ago.I'll inspect it closer when I see him again. The lip is not really square, more of a longer pentagon shape without the point. The lure body is also long, like an original minnow but has a body style similar to a SR. I'll get to the bottom of this somehow

Speaking of which, what time of year typically do the new models come out? -Chad I don't have any info on when certain models will be out at this time. With the 2011 stuff it seemed that it was announced early enough, but there was a long stretch where not much went on. I think a lot of the 2011 stuff was available late 2010/early 2011, so I might expect somewhat of a similar timetable. However, if I get definitive times I will let everyone know.

I have to say I like the look of the rippin rap. I hope the cost is the same as the Rattlin Rapala but I doubt it. Also the Shad rap RS Colors are nice to see. That line up has need an update. I know I be purchasing a few Clown.
Am I the only one that thinks the X rap Prop is just a rip off of the Devils Horse?
