I've been having a strange feeling this last week. Been feeling like fishing don't interest me much
I did some thinking and it's like I've met my [fishing] goals over the autumn, winter and spring and now I need something new.
Back a couple of years ago I knew virtually nothing about fishing here in Israel and decided to change that. There was no real information available in English (my reading and writing skills in Hebrew are seriously lacking) and so I decided to start a website to help myself and other Hebrew challenged fishermen. I also decided that fishing for small fry using just a pole, bobber and bread dough was not for me. It was around 2 years ago this time of year that I came across this forum and started to learn lots about hardbaits (I even naively thought that if it wasn't a Rapala then it wouldn't catch anything ).
Fast forward. Since eventually managing to break a long winter fishless season with a couple of large Puffer fish and discovering a great reef to fish from where I caught a nice sized Barracuda and my 2 best Comb groupers and learning that groupers fight fast and hard (they immediately dive down into a rocky hole) it seems as if I've arrived! Like as if I now 'know' what I only previously knew in theory.
So now I making some tentative plans for the next challenge: fishing through the summer months. Summer fishing is the driest, fish wise, season of the year. I'm not sure why but the larger fish all seem to head out to the deeper waters.
I plan on concentrating on ultra light fishing and small lures like the CD-1, MFR, HJ-6, Fmag-7 and XR-8 (I don't have any XR-6's yet -- just won 3 in Goby color on eBay ) and see what's around. I already know that it's possible to catch Sea bream during the day and they love the CD-1. I plan to do a lot of experimenting and see what I come up with.
One thing I will have to do is to join the Israel Fishing Forum and start to make the effort to participate and at the same time improve my Hebrew and hopefully learn a ton of stuff about shore fishing in the summer. I only hope that they are a friendly bunch like you guys here.
Don't get me wrong, I will still hang out here (how can one forget family?) but will probably, due to the time it will take me to read and understand - maybe even contribute -- in Hebrew, be spending quite a bit of time on the Israel Fishing Forum.
Of course I will let you know how things are progressing with the fishing
