Just thort I put out there what colours and style of lure people use to cath trout where they live.
I've found that cd-7 pearch and te grb and frhf work well
the perch in creeks and dams along with the te grb
where the te frhf and the prech pattons work well in dams
I don't have any yet but i've heard that mini fat raps work well too

I fish for Rainbow, Brown, and occasionally Brook trout here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The water is usually crystal clear, and my all time favorite lures are F-7 Rainbow trout / F-7 Brown Trout / F-7 Gold / CD-01's in bright colors / MFR-3 Olive Green Muddler.
I've found that the MFR-3 Olive green muddler is amazing for trout in clear water. The native trout really hit it hard.

I think a lot of the times anglers over estimate the importance of colour over other factors such as running depth, action of the lure, speed of retrieve etc I however am just as guilty as everyone else in using certain colours over others though If I'm travelling light with just a small lure box here are some of the lures/ colours I wouldn't be without - F-7 & CD-7 Black muddler J-7 Trout, silver, muddler, gfr (the J-9s are just as good so you could maybe mix and match). All of the original colours work well here. JSR-5 Red Crawdad, a great lure and a great colour A weedless Goldfish rapala spoon CD-5 & CD-7 Hot tiger, I had a CD-5 in the original hot tiger and it was absolutely deadly. 13 gram Speckled Hen Taz(23 is the colour code) the trout love the taz's when there feeding in the top of the water. 20 gram Abu Garcia Atom in Copper & one in Yellow perch as well. 20 gram Abu Garcia Toby in Zebra & one in Copper red (still just as deadly as the day they were invented). Savage Gear Larvae in Bone White UV & one in Nymph. The trout just love them!!! Mark my words they're a famous lure in the making, in a few years all the trout/salmon anglers in the UK will have heard of them (I really need to get all the remaining colours ) Probably a bit long winded response for most folks (sorry) but just a little insight into what works here round these parts.

Panther Martins - I throw black until they quit hitting it - then I throw white with a silver blade. Going to start pitching crankbaits to them - #4 Risto Raps and #4 Salmo Hornets. Word from a few friends - tough to beat those two plugs! Oh - BTW - natural colors on the cranks.

Hi. I fish for Rainbow and Cutthroat out here in Western Washington State, USA. What I do is start at the surface, and work my way down using the following Rapalas and Rapala patterns.
1st. I start with the original floater in Red/Gold, or Fire Tiger. When the bows are at the surface, they just come to the boat in droves. 2nd. When they are not at the surface, I break out my Shad Raps in; Yellow Perch, Perch, and Fire Tiger Shad Raps and troll them. I take my limit easily this way as well. 3rd. When they are deeper than my Shad Raps, I break out the Countdowns and either troll or cast. I use CD-5, and CD-7 in Fire Tiger, Yellow and Standard Perch colors, and Gold n Black. They all catch both Cuts and Bows.

In Norway I used the whole time the f5 in Brook Trout and caught alot of Brown Trout in those small streams that were extremely clear water. A little further up along the lake the cd5 in rainbow trout really worked well and caught a Brown Trout from about almost 2 pounds which is released.
It's too bad there isn't much trout in our rivers back in Holland
Tight lines Wijnand

Yellow & chartreuse work best in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
