Headed to lake weir last night just to try out some of my photofinished traps I did in a wild shiner pattern.. These joker's came out killer (still need a little practice) and I just couldn't wait to give them a shot...
Got there about 5pm and the lightning was everywhere! Waited it out about an hour then it quit enough for us to get on the water. Headed to the edge near the creek to little lake weir and I made my first cast. WHAM, 3lber before my partner even got the trolling motor in the water! I was tickled... Then not 5 more cast a 2lber! These joker's are like cheating... Next I had a gar hit it at about 30mph and came out of the water about 2ft. My patner also landed a few on his before one actually took it from him.. When it got a little darker we headed out to the big lake and started fishing another edge. Trap bite was slow so I went with a 1/4oz weight and a june bug trick worm. Wasnt 10min and I got a good bite, set the hook and thought it might be a dink. Got it about 2ft from the boat and this joker turned it on.. Pulled about 20ft of drag (which was set kinda tight) pulled me out into the deep water and never stopped, snapped brand new 14lb Pline Flourocarbon... (not real crazy about that stuff now! ) She had to be 9+.. Then we hit a brush pile that we've caught some good fish on.. Started out catching 1 1/2 - 2lb fish for the first hour but the later it got the bigger they got...(5 fish over 4lb's, one 5+, and alot of 2+lbers) We caught well over 20lb's on this brush pile with the june bug trickworm's and if we had 'the one's that got away' I guarantee that we would have been close to 30lbs'... Excellent lake when it want's to be!!! Full moon might have helped but that golden shiner was the ticket while the sun was out..... Here's a couple pic's we took before the battery died....
