Might get to fish an evening or 2 in the next couple weeks on the beach in Florida. Never wet a hook outside of freshwater. Can anybody give any pointers on fishing live bait or dead bait for me? Just would like to catch anything if possible. I understand that cooked shrimp on the bottom will catch something? Any advice appreciated!!

Live bait would be your best bet in my opinion. Croaker or shrimp. Put a leader and a slip weight on it probably. I live a couple hours away from the coast in Texas. When we go, we wade out to the second sandbar and throw into the gut between the second and third sandbar. Who knows what you will will catch though, it'll be whatever is schooling by: Trout, Reds, Mackerel, Shark, Lady Fish, etc... Last time we went it was black tip shark cast after cast. -Ryan

I would be pleased as all get out to catch anything. I know they have live bait for sale but not sure exactly what. Tell me exactly how to rig it up, what size hook should I use and how do I do the weight? Is there times you cant catch anything or is there a good chance for a bite?

I usually prefer live Croaker over shrimp becuase pretty much anything will bite live shrimp (like trash fish).
I put a 1-2 oz slip weight up my line, tie on a leader (1-2 foot long), and then tie a live bait hook on the end. I am not sure what size the hook is, I just kinda grab them at the store, but it is a good size since the croaker are about 4 inches in length.
Just bait the hook with live shrimp or croaker and toss it out. Try to keep the slack out of the line, and you should get a bite. In my opinion, fishing in the surf is pretty easy.
