I have been experimenting with the flat rap with some success. Got a couple of nibbles and lost a largemouth just before shore. So, I'm confident this lure catches.
However, I lost one to some thick grass and decided to purchase a few more. So, I purchased a Hot Tiger, Yellow Perch and two Chromes. When I tossed the Chrome into the water, it sunk like a rock. I thought maybe the ring and snap was too much ( not for others though..weird ) so I took off the ring and just added the snap. It still sunk. I didn't see bubbles so did not conclude it was a hole - but I'm not absolutely sure.
I'll take it back to the store for a replacement, but I find it annoying and disturbing that a company of this magnitude does not have a web means of contacting them.

I have also found alot of "variance" of bouyancy over the years with Raps. That's one of the problems I have with DT's..... they pack so much weight around the belly that sometimes the lure sinks.
To dea - my guess is that the chrome plating was applied too liberally in the factory on that lure. Or could be they just put too much weight in the belly in the factory. It's the same story with every great lure company. The factory gets moved out of the country, and they get away from their core values that made them famous. If every Rapala is tank-tested.... then they must have put that Flat Rap in the box knowing it was a sinker. Hmmmm

Please people, please dont forget that balsa is still a product of nature. so the bouyancy can vary a bit as the wood's density vary's just like guitars of the same model with the same wood can sound different.
altough a sinking flatrap is weird

I don't have an issue with the fact that it sank. The store replaced it without question. Stuff happens.
I just cannot understand why a manufacturer would not provide a means for their customers to report issues.

I would have kept that sinking FLR... I use suspend-a-strips to achieve that same effect as the water gets colder...
