Does the bar code on the back say anything? It's also interesting that the hang tag is missing?

If the lure is older it won't have a bar-code with the colorpattern... There wasn't computers back in the day...

well, i dont know what is after market cutom job; you mean these were bought in a shop and painted. if so, it is a good paint which is hard to see. actually, i think the eyes give away. on all the balsa rapala i know, the eyes are painted on top of the clear coat. i have even seen a pic or a video where the painting of eyes was shown. so when the eyes are under a coat of varnish, i would agree these are paint jobs.
best, wolfgang

im mixed on these, but i know a guy who might no a little more if they are protos or something. i thought probably they were aftermarket, until i saw the last one, rapala has done a few freaker shad raps like that for asia. i love the middle one. these might be a sort of test painted lures while developing the perch and bluegill patterns, or a very nice job of a custom artist doing a little modding to make their own. if i think of it i will try to send the like to my rep friend and see what he says.

good call wolfgang, should have read your post first, i think your right, clear over the eyes is a dead giveaway. the shad rap was circa 1984, i think even then they had barcodes, but not possitive, i will have to check some of my early ones. bacon
