I bought a few Goby F7's today. I noticed double labbelled name/bar code on the packs. So I remove the first Goby label, too see muddler. So I ask... If its the same lure, and it clearly is... Why re-label the packs and have 2 exact lures with different names? ???Is this just to grab more attention / money from people and use the same lure?

well i think this is more a case of a company simply marketing the same lure to multiple areas. the muddlers showed up in europe and then slowly started to work there way here. however the goby has become a issue in the great lakes here. so in areas that have goby's, baits in a goby pattern might sell better then muddler, just because of the name. how much does a goby look like a muddler minnow, i have no idea, but the pattern is enough like a goby to be passable i guess, so there was no need to invest in a whole new pattern that similar to an existing pattern, when a simple sticker could do that. they have done this before with the shiner/roach patterns, same pattern different names for different locations, but similar fish.

Hi Jeff, and all.
well, i never thought of it that way.
i was always wondering about the GRO (golden roach, usually labelled SPECIAL on the SSR size 5-8) and GSH (green shiner) on SSR14; or was it golden shiner and green roach ... ??
anyway, it seems to make sense to sell the same color in different areas under different names for imitation of different baitfish.
and it is nice for us collectors too, cause we "need" both boxes, even if the contents is identical.
best, w.

The "goby" was a color that they were selling at Dick's Sporting Goods here in the states - I believe in 2010 - maybe at other retailers as well.
I would agree with Bacon that it is a marketing thing - as there are Goby in the Great Lakes and it is a popular food for smallmouth bass and other species.
Now you've got me thinking about "gently" peeling off the labels so that I can "double up" on my collection? That isn't cheating is it? LOL

John - I believe they are one in the same. Muddler overseas and Goby here in the states.

I'm looking at the F5 Goby-only labbelled once. And it is Identical to the first shown muddler lure.

Also notice the code - it is Goby while the Goby color code is GOB. I have one GOB and it is definitely different than the Goby shown above.

Wolfgang,
I would say that you need the first 3 - after that - you are just splitting hairs! LOL
I have some floaters that I've found 4 different boxes - all just slightly different. Where one ends the madness I guess is up to them!
I checked all of my Goby's and none of them have the label over the original MD - but I won't be pursuing the variance - I'll instead turn my efforts to a spotted dog or the likes of something different.
