oh, the picture kinda is hard to tell for sure, so i will just say that it is not the holo shad, just a flash glare. bacon

the sd pattern on the RNR has always been the old finland style sd from the first shad raps. this is the new sd pattern from the jointed shad raps and others. im not sure if it was a holo lure that didnt get the holo overlay, or if it was a test lure that never made it to production, or just how this one came to be and showed up where it did. ive been racking my brain to remember where i got it, and it pretty sure it was either in with a mug or a pilsner glass. either that or the first rapala pro fishing game for pc. you know the one that had the limited edition activision lure in it that are all over now, yeah, that game. i had heard there was a limited ed lure in with the game so i bough a couple of copies, and the first couple didnt even have the limited lure in with it, just regular lures, and maybe this one too, i just can not remember anymore. bacon

Could that have been the first time the shad pattern with the yellow and red stripe was used? What has "X" stood for before? Was this one given away with the purchase of an X-Box? That's what is so cool about Rapalas - lot's of history we still don't know about!!!

no, i know for sure that i got this after the red/yellow strip shad appeared on other models, and there was no known xbox connection. i have seen a few older specials that used the X in front of the color code, like it was to designated as a special. but this was kinda uncommon, only saw it on a couple of patterns. im guessing this was a suffix given to the shad pattern for this lure, kinda like calling it SD2, just guessing here.

No hang tag. No mini catalog. Reminds me of a lure you would get for free when you purchase some thing. Like the Activision lure you got with the Rapala video game etc. Some times they would change the code to relate to that particular item they were selling. If that were the case, we just need to figure out what it may have come out of.

I would tend to agree with Jason with the "free with item" theory - In fact - Bacon had mentioned he got it with something! Looking back through my coffee mugs - They all have no mini catalog, no hang tag, and in the description - no color code either - Just "made in Estonia". I have an idea for a solution: We throw a kegger, have a bunch of beers, and get Bacon to the point of remembering where he got it from - then we'll be one step closer to the answer!

im 90% sure it was out of a pilsner glass, i bought all of them with pearl white shad raps, but i thnk this one had caught my eye as being odd, so i snagged it too. kinda like the silver plated plum shad RFR7 that i got in a mug, kearney ended up getting that one.
