Went fishing this morning - got an early start whilst it was still dark and tied on an MXR-13. After a while I figured that the MaxRap wasn't swimming properly (difficult to see as it was still somewhat dark). Put it back in my box and tried a few other lures. When it got lighter and the sea a bit calmer I tied the MXR-13 back on and it was swimming like a dead stick. Pulled it out and noticed it was full of water When I got home I started to look for a crack (maybe it had hit a rock or something) - nothing, it was all sound. Then I noticed a tiny bump near the right eye. Looking closer I could see that it was a very small puncture! I moved the front treble around a bit and it was a perfect fit Those VMC hooks are real sharp (Yes, that is an air bubble that you can see in the photo). What do you think the odds are of a hook puncturing a lure? I drilled a small hole in the puncture and managed to get all the water out. I'm now letting it dry slowly to get all the moisture out and then I will plug the hole with a small amount of epoxy. I just hope that the metal balls (internal weight system) are not rusted to the point that they won't move properly Anybody else had a similar happening? Nigel

When the water gets inside, the lure is shot... I love the new stuff made with the plastics, but just another reason why the old balsa is still the best...

yeah, i think the lure is dead. if it were me, i would put that picture in with the lure and mail it back to rapala and complain. used to be if you did that, they would send you a new one back, and a sorry letter. hard to know if they still will, but if the lure is junk you dont have much to lose. bacon

So after I glued the hole up I took it fishing and it still swims great Nigel

Well, I read this thread a while back, had a chuckle, and moved on. Then when I was fishing today I had my favorite, and by far my best, lure (an x-rap) form a crack and fill up with water... I'm not laughing anymore. My first thought was back to this thread and so I started checking for holes within reach of the hooks. Then by accident I found the crack just in front of the first treble. Un-lucky for me, the x-rap's rattles and casting system are not seporated from the rest of the internal chamber so they got swamped. I'm still hoping for the best and that the rattles are at least made of stainless so they don't rust too bad. Here's hoping!

Had a problem with my Maxrap, the bailarm closed and it hit the rocks. I did find a crack but water wasn't coming out so i did 6 holes and i blew through them. unfortumetely i don't think that the weight is sealed because there is an amount of rust. I sealed it all with epoxy now and i'm going to repaint it. I just bought this and it gave me a nice barracuda that's why I don't want to just throw it away. hopefully it is sealed well.
