I was wondering if anybody has any rod and reels suggestions for using bigger lures such as SSR's and such. I'm looking at spending around $200 on a set up that can handle bigger lures.

In that price range you can get into a shimano calcutta. For the bigger lures I would use a 300 or 400 series. If you are after a low profile, I have had excellent performance from the Shimano Curado 300. I throw big bucktails and plugs with both of the mentioned reels and have had zero problems.

This is the rod that I use. It's very light, but can toss out big lures like SSR's and Magnum 18's. They run around $100 Shimano Compre RodsI use this rod along with a Shimano Corvalus 300 baitcasting reel. It's the perfect size for braided line and mono up to about 14 lb test. Any heavier line, then I would go for the 400 size. Shimano Corvalus Reels

i would sugest a st croix mojo musky rod, or a heavy mojo bass rod. and i would pair it up with a abu garcia 6000 series. when casting larger heavy lures you get away with a reel of that size. they dont cast light lures worth a damn, but casting large baits will be no problem. rod will be about $100-$120, and the reel shouldnt be too hard to find for less then $90. its a great set up.
that being said, and i wasnt doing this to push my wares or anything, but i do have a new mojo musky rod left from the bait shop, i think its a 7'6" heavy, but would have to look for sure. shipping would be a pain, and a dealbreaker out of the usa. but i have been needing to put that up on craigslist or lakelink or somewhere because i just dont musky fish.
but anyway, that is my suggestion, hope whatever you find fits your needs. bacon
