and man, are they FAT!This is my first look at them, since they never have them in retail stores by me...they look like a golf ball with a flat diving bill But I love them, and I cant wait to create a ripple wake just under the surface with these, over weed beds... I do have a major gripe though...but I'll go into that later...

Ooooh, look at that fatty! All the FATs... Here's my gripe...the ones are the right are regular DTFAT01's...and the right are DTFATSS01s...note how you can only get certain patterns on the SureSet models... Gripe#1 The one on top is a BSD, Blue Shad...yet the SS model is a BLP, or Blue Pearl...see any differences? I don't....Gripe#2 So I took them out... Still see any differences? (other than the hooks of course) Ok, the BLP SS is a tiny hair lighter... Next comparison - regular on top, PGS or Pearl Grey Shiner. SS model OPSD or Original Pearl Shad on the bottom...other than the orange belly...what's the difference? Gripe#3.... Ok, so the back is a slighly different color.... Why is Rapala going out of their way with these tiny subtle differences that don't really matter? And why don't they just make the same colors for both lures?

i need to break down and buy a bunch of these, as far as your gripes, if its that big a deal, cant you just change the damn hooks guy. and if you really need some of those other colors, i think i know a guy... i like the PSD, but i would really like to see some in original Gold, baby bass would be good too. bacon

to me the blue is lighter on the bottom one, Just, take a closer look. The BSD in top with black scales and the BLP bottom w. blue scales.

I know there are subtle differences....but is it really that different from the other that it warrants an entirely new color pattern?
At least the differences between the PGS and OPSD are a little more obvious.
Anyway, here is what drives me crazy:
- different colors for SureSet models - why can't all patterns be available on all? - more colors available on the more expensive SureSet models...

Ted,
I think this is a case of Rapala wanting to make more lures for collectors to buy so they can increase their profits. Clearly some of this is blatant over kill.

Regardless..maybe the US market might want more Team Eskos instead of a slight variation of a DT model...
Speaking of which, the whole DT series itself is total overkill. I mean how specialized in diving depth does one need to get?

Agreed! One for every depth with ever hook possibility.

I'm waiting for the DT 45 for when the walleye go deep in the summer. Because everyone knows there is no other way to get the lure that deep without bigger diving lips.

I think the latest addition was the DT-20 metal series or whatever it's called....with a metal disc in the lip....Im sure they DT-30 will be next, followed by the DT-40

Yeah a DT-30 would be cool for Cod trolling. But really only 5 colours this should be enough.

I mean how specialized in diving depth does one need to get? I have used DT-16's in 6 feet of water to catch fish.By tinkering with your retrieve speed, height of your rod tip and stuff like like that its possible. I wanted a bigger bait in shallow water but the baits designed for that depth are alot smaller,It would be nice if Rapala could come up with a bigger bait that didn't dive that deep.If a person wants it to dive deeper do what Jeremy mentioned and add some lead to it.

I gotta say though that I love these things...they dive even less than a SFR, and have an even more obnoxious wobble. So many of the lakes Im fishing have weeds that are just 6-10 inches under the surface, and these things are perfect for it. Of course, they don't come in gold I may need to send you a couple to paint, one in 'Gold' of course...you should come up with a new pattern called 'Rapala Gold', for all the lures Rapala doesn't make in Gold anymore...I'd send you a boatload of MR9's and MR11's....and DTFAT01S.....

Sorry Muskie. I meant to do a quote with Fishooked's reply. But come to think of it, now that I look at it I think I misread what he said about his latest loving. I thought Fishooked was saying that he now loves the DTFAT1 instead of the MR-9. Sorry about that guys.
