Ok, we all probably have too many rods & reels - but which ones are your mainstays and your favorites? My rods I was never too particular one, probably because I mess them up half the time But my favorite is my 7' Fin-Nor one peice, its the most comfortable rod I own. I also have a 6 1/2 Ugly Stik - I think everyone should have one - that I use for throwing lighter lures. Lately I have slowly begun replacing my reels with Okuma's - I have a Stratus and a Hardstone now and I love them. I also have a Pinnacle Alyssa and a Mitcheel 300XE. Before that I always used a lot of Quantum Reels - they are ok for the money, but when you line them up against Okumas they can't compare. The revised Mitchell 300 lures are really good reels if you haven't used them before.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot - I rarely use line over 10lb test (that one was for you Steve ) My new favorite line is Sufix 10lb clear.

Thats a hard one to answer because I have about 20 different rod/reel combos. My favorite Bass combo would have to be my St.Croix 7 foot Premier rod and Quantum Energy baitcaster. and my favorite spinning combo is a BPS Extreme XPS Woo Daves 6' 6" rod with a Shimano Spirex reel. I always wanted to get a G Loomis rod be can't justify spending 400.00 on a fishing rod I like using Berkley Lightning Rods as well great quality without the price My Muskie/Pike rods are beasts. My favorite is a Pete Mania 8' XH Crankbait/Bucktail combo. Which is spooled with 80 LB Fireline

Hi Steve.
there was a bunch of LOOMIS rods on sale here for 79.99 euro recently (which is about $120 right now). most of these did not sell. these kind of toothpicks are not considered fishing poles by most fishermen here. at 6 or 7 ft they are rather short. we are mostly using 9 or 10 ft rods, sometimes longer.
but i have been playing around with stuff in the 6-7 ft range and i liked it, especially from a belly boat they are very nice. and on a 6 ft mitchell i caught a pike of over 40 in., so no little-fish rods at all ...
if i knew you wanted a LOOMIS, i would have bought one for you. what size/ model/ line weight you are looking for?
best, wolfgang

I love my deep south fishing rods. I have 7 - lipless cranks, topwater, flipping, preston clark series, spinnerbait's, lake toho special, lake seminole special.... Quit using shimano's and loomis after I got my hand's on one of these. Light and some of the strongest rod's on the market.
As for reel's.. Since I spent so much on the rod's had to go a little cheaper on the reel's... lol.. I have 5 quantum's accurists ac500cx (not the pt's, but I love them! ) and 2 quantum pt's ( good reel's but no better than the cheaper ac500cx.
As for tackle I have an okeechobee fats tackle bag which is awesome. I found it at walmart on sale for 44 bucks! It hold's 8 tackle trays. I've got 10 in mine because some are the falcon tray's (thinner). it has compartment's all over it. I was finding new one's all the time.lol. It has a red light under the top so you can see what your doing in the dark, sunglass holder, list goes on and on...

i have a lot of combos, i think i have at least 7 or 8. since i do some small tests for a local fishing tackle brand, i have many rods... and many of them are quite similar.
so, my favorite rod is a 8 ft (2.40 cm) which will be on sale since january (you can see it on the 113 cm wels catfish report).
i used a lot a telescopic 7 ft one, light (great for chubs and bass) and very easy to carry into my backpack, especially when riding my bike. 12 km bye bike with a rod holder and front wind aren't really nice.
regarding lines, i like zebco topic series (really easy to manage and use, but it is quite weak on breaking load) and trilene xl/xt. i'm having some troubles with an ironsilk spool. i'm passing all of my reels to titanium soft (a line here available in italy) due to its great resistance and smoothness.

They don't sell Rapala rods around here anymore...although the Sportsmen series rod (19.99) was a peice of junk. I broke two of them.
And I have plenty of rod I bought for under 40.00 that were beasts..

One rod I've had since I was a little kid and will always hang on to is a vintage 1979 Master Boron C ultra light graphite rod. My dad got it for himself in 1979 and handed it over to me back in the late 80s. I use it for trout, panfish, and snapper blues.

Spinning tackle is my main gear. I fish Bass Pro Shop rods with all Shimano reels on them. I think that's about to change because I'm not to happy with the new Shimano reels. I like rear drag reels, I know the drag is not the best but I like the balance in my hand. Can anyone suggest a decent rear drag reel?

I am a quantum man too, but usually the cheaper stuff, by necessity only. I've always used spinning reels, but am considering trying a baitcaster this year. I was thinking about a code, only because they have they have a code combo at the dick's sporting goods near me for about a $110, but am wondering what everyone else would suggest? I am partial to quantum, but would try anything, if someone here felt strongly enough about it.

Right now I have a G. Loomis CBR 843 crankbait rod paired with a Shimano Curado 201 E7 (I never got used to the right hand retrieve reels, so I went with the 201), using 10 to 12 lb test line. I keep stronger line in an Okuma Nemesis reel in my bag. Also, a BPS Graphite Series 6'6" MH spinning rod with a reel I got at a supermarket that's surprisingly good. Right now I'm saving up for another casting rod for soft plastics. I like Shimano's Crucial rods, but Shimano Europe doesn't sell them, I'll have to buy them from the US. And another Curado or the Citica E...

I spend a lot of time driving all over Colorado/New Mexico and always always always bring along my 2 go to travel rods. A Temple Forks 6' (TFS602L) ultralight with a Shimano Symetre 2500 for the little streams and creeks and a Temple Forks 7' medium light (TFS703ML)with a Shimano Symetre 4000. When on the move, I don't have time to break out the waders/flyrod and spend hours on the water, it much more hit and run style. For my fly-rod I use a St Croix/Orvis combo in a 5 weight and love that on too. I just ordered a Penn Affinity UL reel I plan to put on the 6' ul rod and picking up a 7' light for the Symetre 2500. I want to try my luck with a 2 or 3 weight fly combo this summer as I love ultra-light setups. After leaving FL to come here I haven't used anything over 6 LB test. But then, I haven't been after the Muskies out here either.

Baitcasting rods: Shimano Compre on almost all my poles, but recently very fond on Berkley Taxtic ML, like someone said before, "Quality without the price".
Baitcasting reel: Daiwa Exceller and Daiwa Procaster Tournament Series. I have Shimano Cardiff for trolling.
Spinning Rods: Again Shimano Compre! I have BPS Bionic Blade and Pflueger. Spinning Reels: All Pflueger President, strong and smooth.
Line: Exclusively Pline CX-premium and Floroclear. Lures: Rapala, YUM, etc
I took the combo of Berkley Taxtic ML-Daiwa Exceller spooled with 12lbs floroclear to saltwater fishing in Bali and the combo handled hard fighting fish in strong underwater current extremely well. I've never seen my medium light pole bent like that.

I bought 2 Quantum Tour Edition PT reels and put them on St.Croix Legend rods. These combos have been working really well for me,I basically put my fairy sticks on the shelf and went exclusively with baitcasting gear. For the money the Skeet Reese rods have really surprised me.I use the 8 footer for pitching jigs into heavy cover

I'm new to the site, so I'm still finding my way around, checking out topics and posts. I think this is kind of an interesting thread, especially the major differences between the U.S. and non-U.S. members' gear. Okay I might as well chime in. I too, like many that have posted, own way too much gear and tackle for my own good, I find myself constantly upgrading as new product continually comes out and is marketed directly at my addiction. I currently have upwards of 20 ready to fish rod & reel rigs. My current favorite go-to's are: 6'6" M action St. Croix Mojo with a KVD1000 baitcaster, 12 lb. Berkley 100% Flourocarbon 6'8" MH action Kistler with a Pinnacle (round) baitcaster, 17 lb. Berkley Vanish 6'3" M action G. Loomis Bronzeback with a Quantum Hypercast spinning, 10 lb. Crystal Fireline 6'8" M action Daiwa Mike Iaconelli Sig. with a Daiwa 1605 spinning, 14 lb. Cajun Advantage The Daiwa rod is my most recent acquisition, I was in the market to upgrade my stouter spinning rod choices (I replaced a Gander Mtn. brand MH 2 piece spinning stick). The Daiwa 1605 reel that I matched with it is one of my old time favorites, it's very similar to the Daiwa Whisker SS series reels but with an Autocast trigger feature. Truth be told, I only purchase spinning reels with the trigger feature. In my opinion the trade-off for no infinite anti-reverse, but the ease of one handed casting is worth it. Just a note to all those in the market for new rod purchases, do your homework and research the specifications carefully. This is probably not news to most of you avid fishermen, but the Medium action "Ike" spinning rod I decided upon in the end has beefier (up to 15 lb. line, and 3/4 oz. lures) capabilities than most of the Medium Heavy rods I was comparing it to. And, to seal the deal I found it on a decent sale through Tackle Wharehouse, with free shipping, due I'm sure to Iaconelli changing tackle sponsorships (he just recently left Daiwa and signed with Abu Garcia).

Welcome aboard! Steve yeah I noticed you're rolling with all baitcasters now... I still have a Cabela's InnerCast rod if you want it.. (the guideless rod) my flirtation with baitcasters is short and messy lol Anyway, I love my spinning reels and that's all I use. My new favorite combo I use for Senko's and plastics - Okuma 30 Trio reel with Field & Stream Tec Spec 6' 8" rod...feels like an extension of my own arm and super light too...
